  1. Re:I remember when FASA and I were friends on FASA Studios Now Out of Business · · Score: 1

I guess I'm confused. I understand from the post that FASA Interactive (which I didn't know existed as I'm a Mac-head and don't play their game (games?)) is different - at least in part - from FASA, the makers of Shadowrun. But is FASA itself gone? Does someone else own the IP to Shadowrun the RPG (and if so, who)? Or is the RPG dead, too?

  2. Re:MMORPGing other franchises... on Academics Speak On 'Life After World Of Warcraft' · · Score: 1

I don't know if Bliz would actually create the "next big thing" instead of continuing to grow the world of WoW. Releasing WoW v.1, v.2, etc. in terms of new content being released every year/few years seems to be the better move. It's in their interest to keep everyone in one world and one billing system. If you have two products, people will always feel that their product, Product A, is getting less developer attention than new, shiny Product B. Rather than getting people to switch to the new product, Product A fans will be so angry at Bliz that they'll take their ball and play in someone else's game. And to placate those looking for Starcraft or whatever, they could always pull a Star-Trek'esque move of once your character hits level gazillion a portal opens and a Zerg steps out, inviting you to join their fight (or whatever the plot is.)

(And as a side note: Until there are quality alternatives to WoW, us Mac users are left with two choices: Keep playing WoW or go out and get a life. Now if you'll excuse me, level gazillion awaits ... ;))

I vaguely recall some Asimov series (one of his better known ones, IIR) that deals with the ability to predict group behavior quite successfully through some sort of psychology. It seemed to evolve into some kind of "future guessing" where he warns of a messianic figure or something. Assuming my memory is anywhere near what I think I'm referring to, it's an interesting case of life imitating art...

    > And looking at the approval ratings of congress, and the president

Yes, it is unfortunate that the reality is that two parties will always be the case come election time _for President_ it's not the case when it comes to Congress. There are some independent folk in Congress. How many? Doesn't really matter: More independents have been elected to Congress than have been elected President. And it's Congress where you have the biggest chance to make a difference. Don't like the way the "debate" about Iraq is going? Reach out to your representative. Write, call, make appointments to see him or her. If enough people make their attitude and opinion known to their Congressman/woman, then _that's_ how things change. They know they are more directly affected by pissing off the voters in their district than the President is. I'm not thrilled about a two-party system (and btw, it's not a "two-party system." It's a constitutional republic that does not prevent their being more than two parties. But the issue is not that there are (in general) only two choices come election day. The issue is that in general people don't care or act on any other day....

Could this be something as "simple" as retraining the brain to have less of a response to the recollection of the event? By asking the patient to retell the event again and again while taking the drug, the mental pathways that have been formed by the drug can be deadend (for lack of a better word) or have their receptors rendered less active and that could help reduce the stress associated with the event.
