I don't remember the exact price, but afair top of the line Motorola G4 chips are not much more expensive then that "top of the line" athlon/Pentium IV
They are not complaining about the download time, they are complaining that if you don't have microsoft explore installed, you will have to use additionel 4 hours to get the service pack because you can't use windows autoupdate.
But it's also a great help for all the rest of us, who have to network with microsoft software.
Just imagine the problems that could ocour if Microsoft used a bad tcp/ip stack insted of the bsd one. I mean we got enough problems with dos attack due to buggy web servers.
So the day microsoft take apache, modify it a bit and call it IIS 7 will be a great day for all of us internet users.
But can you easily get the fix widtout also getting all the other new and expimental things in the cvs?
You generaly don't want to run cvs software on servers.

They do and they have promised to keep the C and C++ ABI stable for the future. (They promised the same thing for 3.1 but some bugs in the 3.1 code forced them to change the ABI again).
But they do. How would you develop for windows widtout buying windows and thus paing Microsoft. The question is only when do you pay: When you get the os(Microsoft) or when you release the software(QNX)

What is wrong with the chipset? We can use the same one that Apple use(IE: The one made by motorola. It is a long time ago apple made their own chipset)

Notice that the scaling of the scores for both Win2K and Win98SE are very much the same, but we do see better overall scores with Win2K. The 1.33 Athlon outperforms the 1.7GHz Pentium4 at stock speeds, while the 1.53GHz Athlon outperforms the 2.1GHz Pentium4. It is our opinion that the SysMark2000 benchmark reflects the "normal everyday computer user's" plethora of programs used pretty well.
But now anyone include a browser with their os. Today any os come with a browser. Even AmigaOS 3.9 does include a browser. So does BeOS, QNX6,
and all linux-dist I have tried have installed netscape, so this is nothing unique to microsoft. And how should the user download a browser from the web, if he/she don't already have an other browser???
How they integrete the browser with the os don't really matter. Anyone are free to change browser if he/she want that.
Some embedded hardware does have a need for display. Realtime Data gathering is importent, but beeing able to view the result is a nice feature:}. Besides qnx is also beeing used in many "internet enabled" devices such as the audrey. And Nasa use it for "launching satellites into orbit or docking the space shuttle" You would not want to do that widtout a display.

What happens if a procss who need to read from the harddisk migrate to an other noede??
You could ofcause let the kernel handle forward all request but that might cause insane amouts of network trafic.
So my question is? Can this cluster solution with reason be used with a webservers/sql server or is this only ment to be used for programs who don't read much from the harddisk?

But this does not really matter, as both usb2.0 and firewire is able to keep up with your harddisk.

Intels fastest chip is the Pentium IV not the
Itanium 2. The only thing Itanium 2 got over Pentium IV is the ability to address > 4GB ram.

yes, and using Dos is a big improvement over not having an operation system at all, but that don't mean that we should use Dos.
Downgraded? Even apples own blast test show that the amd chip is faster then the G4 with any usefull data(That is string length=11)

Why not, it is the perfect. Nobody will complain because they all belive it is a joke.
My only question is:
Will it have a VBlank interrupt?
I really hate using a computer widtout a VBLank interrupt, nothing scrolls smooth -(((

But then 1/3 of my apps use Gnome, an other 1/3 use kde and the last use Motif, it don't look very consistent.
Ofcause I could choose Just to use Gnome apps, but there are not many good linux apps, so cutting 2/3 away is not really a solution.
