    I don't remember the exact price, but afair top of the line Motorola G4 chips are not much more expensive then that "top of the line" athlon/Pentium IV

    Intels fastest chip is the Pentium IV not the
    Itanium 2. The only thing Itanium 2 got over Pentium IV is the ability to address > 4GB ram.

    They are not complaining about the download time, they are complaining that if you don't have microsoft explore installed, you will have to use additionel 4 hours to get the service pack because you can't use windows autoupdate.

    yes, and using Dos is a big improvement over not having an operation system at all, but that don't mean that we should use Dos.

    Downgraded? Even apples own blast test show that the amd chip is faster then the G4 with any usefull data(That is string length=11)

    But it's also a great help for all the rest of us, who have to network with microsoft software.

    Just imagine the problems that could ocour if
    Microsoft used a bad tcp/ip stack insted of the bsd one. I mean we got enough problems with dos attack due to buggy web servers.

    So the day microsoft take apache, modify it a bit and call it IIS 7 will be a great day for all of us internet users.

    Sourcecode want to be usefull not free :-}

    You generaly don't want to run cvs software on servers.

    They do and they have promised to keep the C and C++ ABI stable for the future. (They promised the same thing for 3.1 but some bugs in the 3.1 code forced them to change the ABI again).

    But they do. How would you develop for windows widtout buying windows and thus paing Microsoft. The question is only when do you pay: When you get the os(Microsoft) or when you release the software(QNX)

    So no the P4 do not beat the athlon

    But now anyone include a browser with their os. Today any os come with a browser. Even AmigaOS 3.9 does include a browser. So does BeOS, QNX6,
    and all linux-dist I have tried have installed netscape, so this is nothing unique to microsoft. And how should the user download a browser from the web, if he/she don't already have an other browser???

    How they integrete the browser with the os don't really matter. Anyone are free to change browser if he/she want that.

    But then 1/3 of my apps use Gnome, an other 1/3 use kde and the last use Motif, it don't look very consistent.

    Ofcause I could choose Just to use Gnome apps, but there are not many good linux apps, so cutting 2/3 away is not really a solution.

    Some embedded hardware does have a need for display. Realtime Data gathering is importent, but beeing able to view the result is a nice feature :}. Besides qnx is also beeing used in many "internet enabled" devices such as the audrey. And Nasa use it for "launching satellites into orbit or docking the space shuttle" You would not want to do that widtout a display.

    What happens if a procss who need to read from the harddisk migrate to an other noede??

    You could ofcause let the kernel handle forward all request but that might cause insane amouts of network trafic.

    So my question is? Can this cluster solution with reason be used with a webservers/sql server or is this only ment to be used for programs who don't read much from the harddisk?
