  1. Completely agree AND has been proven to me... on Will Munich's Linux Desktops Be Running Windows? · · Score: 0

I've been (and still am) trying to get average dummies to use Linux. Although Linux and KDE are improving at light speed they are just not good enough. Besides, even if they did, many equivlant programs for Linux are not mature enough. Yes, Open Office and other major programs are doing great but for certain need those little open source projects are extremly usefull and people need to use Windows programs. Unfortunately even dummy that I tried to switch to Linux switched back to Windows. Why? They ALL said it was buggy and not comfortable enough (personally I don't agree but that's what they all say.) What makes me sad is that us, the Linux developers and users, think Linux is perfect and kicks Bill's ass but it doesn't (yet). We should accept the problems and try to fix them.

The only reason people may think the states is a better place to live is hollywood movies and the advertisements. I love Amercian movies but other than that don't like nothing about it comparing to Canada or the Europe. Besides, at lease open source developers should now there is more freedom in anywhere else (specially europe) than in the US! Proud to be Canadian!

There are always ways to hack Windows. In most system I could get full access with some tricks, in my university I can surf Internet without ristriction in Win2K machines that allow you to only run their special browser that only surfs university's web sites. With Linux that might be possible but I haven't heard it.

  5. Re:must be a PC thing on Motherboard Audio Comes Of Age · · Score: 0

I agree. I have been selling computers for a while and I have never had a complaint for on-board audio. I have had problems in some cheap boards but it was the quality of the card. If the same card was external it would sound as bad. Yes, on board audio maybe lacking some features (that average people don't care about) but for what it does support I don't see any difference as long they are both good sound cards.

  6. Re:Digital Cameras? What about cell cameras? on The Future of Digital Cinema · · Score: 0

Exactly, but even in the future you can not replace a high quality lens with chips. There will always be professional cameras around for the pros. And even theoratically, no director would like to use his cell phone! Even if some small high quality lenses where invented many pros would like something big and easy to operate!

Chill, dude! It was just a comment! I have P266 at home too and it doesn't compare to the Duron at all. I mean sure it's perfect for the internet but it sucks with Office XP. With Linux a P266 was good enough it only was loading too slow. I sell computers and after trying out every single CPU Durons are my favorites at the time!

I know! But isn't the Sims 3D? The article mentions the Sims runs on these PCs.

I read somewhere that these have a SiS630 chipset. I have this chip and it doesn't load 3D in Linux. So how come they run some games?

Dude after I got a Duron I wondered why on earth was I paying for Pentium before. People just piss me off when they criticize something without trying them out!

  11. Re:Rather Biased on Three LindowsOS PCs Reviewed · · Score: 1

Yeah! I have a 900 Mhz Duron with everything onboard (except I installed a GeForce 2 because Sis 630 didn't run 3D on Linux and also I have lots of RAM - 512 Mb and 40 Gig ). I triple Mandrake + XP + 98 and I do just about everything (web server, games, development, CD burning, DVD without using my hardware decoder, and even some video editing) just fine. And except for video editing the speed so good that god know when I'll get the next PC!

I agree. You might want to try Walmart's Mandrake PCs or just install your favorite distro of course.

It's just to scare them off and they won't be because they I.B.M. and for IBMs lawyers that's nothing. I say this by experience. Another thing, I don't know the whole SCO thing but I don't think it is open source software and if I'm right how on earth can they claim that the open source software has copied their source? Shouldn't be wise versa? Haven't they used open source software in non-open source software against GPL terms? For gods sake can some one make this clear for me?
