  1. I use a similar service in Dallas on Broadband from World's Tallest Building · · Score: 1

I have had the same service via AirBand in Dallas for about 9 months now. The first 3 months was pretty bad, but since then it's been great. Almost no down time (except whent the receiver got struck by lightning). I don't have latency problems. Upstream/Downstream speeds are constant. We buy 1.5 MB/s, but can go up to 10 MB/s. We are across the street from the main antenna though, so that might have something to the good performance.

I can't remember the last time I only had to dial 7 numbers. In DFW we have 214,972,469,and 817 and will soon have 1 more. If you think 10 digit dialing is a pain, try remembering 2 people with the same number in the same city with 2 area codes!!

Is this supposed to make you want to buy the computer?? "However, it is thought unlikely that it will try to kill its owner." If there is a greater than zero chance that my computer may try to kill me, I think I'll stick with my Athlon.

  7. The dangers of clueless users on Clueless Users Are Bad For Debian · · Score: 1

I totally agree. Clueless users who manage to get the OS installed will almost always have no idea how to secure their system. I have seen people who get RedHat installed and have their inetd.conf totaly open, several services running they will NEVER use, and an old kernel. I think a big problem we have to worry about are these machines becoming cracker targets. Script kiddies just love to compromise theses machines and use them to mount attacks on other machines. The clueless user probably has no idea they have been cracked and just go about their business.

This is the great stuff you get when Dirk is making your processors
