These huge numbers are so retarded. They act like it's money out of someone's pocket. THAT MONEY WAS NEVER THERE, DUDE! If people didn't steal those movies, they simply wouldn't watch them.
You know, it turns out that I was wayyyy too hard on those prequels. I was comparing them to the original trilogy viewed through some very rose colored glasses. The truth is, the original trilogy sucked... HARD. The first movie is almost unwatchable. It moves incredibly slowly, the dialogue is at least as bad as in the prequels, amd the acting is bad, for the most part. Most of the aliens are downright silly. Hell, the STORY isn't even all that great. The only thing the Original Trilogy gave us was a universe. The universe of Star Wars is truly compelling. The Star Wars movies are, for the most part, terrible. "The Empire Strikes Back" is the only good movie in the bunch.
but nobody knows what will happen to marine life if we do it:

The Iron Hypothesis suggests that introducing enough iron into the Southern Ocean will lead to a marine life explosion that will consume vast amounts of greenhouse gas
"give me enough iron, and I'll give you an ice age"
right... and that's cool, if they are happy winning search and being also-rans everywhere else. If they want to gain a foothold in any other online service, they're going to need to make those services obvious and accessible from google.com.
Google's other services haven't caught on because their main website is so tragically empty. Google.com gets all of the traffic, yet when you go there, all you get is a basically blank screen with a place to type in your search terms. The "more" link isn't terribly enlightening. Google needs to have a fully fleshed out web PORTAL if they want to win in any other category. You should be able to go to google.com and have it all layed out there with some very user friendly suggestions and advice. There should be big, helpful links to gmail, froogle (with today's hot buys), maps (today's hot searches??), etc., etc. How about a "Did you know?" section? Or, and "Introducing..." section. They aren't leveraging their search dominance in any way at all.
If just ONE of these songs is amongst the secret unlockables, I'll be a very happy man:

"and yet the official result was still accepted by our media almost without question.
uhhhh... the media weren't "accepting" the results, they were helping us to accept them. And it's all Bill Clinton's fault.
You can thank the Telecommunications Deregulation Act, that WJC signed, for the state that we're in. Now there are six evil, profit driven (of course) corporations in control of 95% of the major media in this country. They are all run by men ruled by either god, power or money and those are the tenets of the Republican party and, therefore, the Republicans will always win any election within about 5% (which I'm just estimating as the threshold that they would have the nerve to... god, what's the word? Steal, hijack, rig... damn...
It's really quite amazing how much better the picture quality is on HD DVD / BLU Ray vs. regular DVD. I, like you, was very skeptical and could see no reason for the upgrade.
I was very very wrong. The images are absolutely stunning. Almost 3-D. Go read any credible review and you'll get the same impression. The difference in quality is very similar to the difference between VHS and DVD. One review I read said something along the lines of "I really wasn't prepared for what I saw on the screen"
I know I'm going to get the units of measure wrong here, but to try to illustrate the point.
If you have seen High Definition on cable or Satellite you should have noticed how much better it looks than even upconverted DVDs. HD broadcasts are put out in 19 mbits or some such measure. HD DVD and Blu Ray have a maximum of 36 mbits (or whatever). Nearly twice the amount of infomation in the picture when compared to an HD broadcast.
Do yourself a favor and get to any decent A/V shop and check out an HD or BR player. It'll be well worth your time ( and gasoline)
The Wii will be, at minimum, 2.5x as powerful as the gamecube. This is according to the most conservative estimates I've read. Since they aren't wasting all of the extra power on 720p or 1080p, they'll be able to have all of the extra AI and physics and all the 480p / Widescreen eyecandy you could ask for. Just imagine RE4 with at least 2.5x the graphics capabilities and you have a very nice looking game. I'd dare say next-gen, even.
I guess this is as good an article to make this comment. As someone who has worked in retail for 6 years (Gamestop and now Gamecrazy) I am eternally amused that no analyst (that I've read, at least) has ever once mentioned that the installed PS2 user base is grossly overstated. Yes, the PS2 has sold well over 100 million units, but I would be very conservative in estimating that at least 30 million of those units(AT LEAST) are replacements for broken PS2's. It's really quite amazing to me that I've sold quite a few customers their 4th PS2 since 2001. The thing is, they're so invested in games, that they simply must replace their PS2 when it breaks, and they break... gosh, seems yearly.
Besides the replacements, there are tons of users that have second and third machines. Much like the GBA buyers, they just had to get the special edition units, or the slimmer unit, or... whatever, you get it.
I'd say that the installed user base for PS2s, based on my own experience, is overstated by 40-50%. The PS2 won the last console war, but not by nearly as much as the sales figures show.
(and, yes, the Xbox had quite a few return customers due to broken hardware, but not nearly as many. The Gamecube appears to be indestructible)
The Bard's Tale!!! God, did I love that game
Might and Magic
Baldur's Gate (I & II and the expansions)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (never played the sequel, should I??)
Disc Tron for Intellevision
Deus Ex
and, I can't remember the name of it (can someone please help me??) it was on the Commodore 64... text based dungeons and dragons game... DANG IT! There were some famous lines like, "the dragon makes a quick move(and steals your stuff)".... there was a spell that was instant death "QWERTY"... ring anyone's bell?
also,
Zelda: A Link to the Past (the best Zelda game)
Mario 64
Banjo Kazooie!! (LOVED that game)
Rygar
hmmmm... what was that MUD based in Midgaard? Loved that game, too... until the University of Arkansas cracked down on MUDs.
Perfect example as to why Nintendo will dominate. My dad will want one. He's 64. He loves playing games. He played the hell out of the NES and the Sega, but the new games are just too demanding for him. Too many buttons, too much bullshit. But this machine, with this controller... he'll love it, and his friends will love it. It's simple, it will be fun.
All they need is two games, done well, and he'll play this thing every day. A fishing game and a hunting game. Use the controller like a fishing reel and use the controller like a gun (especially if they come out with some sort of a gun "shell" to put the controller into).
If there are any game designers out there reading this, these games are guaranteed million sellers, and they aren't graphically demanding. They can be made on the cheap.
just my $.02
WTF?!?!? If I'm understanding this correctly, you people seem to think that one can only have a BLUE (Aqua) colored desktop on a MacOS X computer? That is f&%*ing ridiculous! Of course you can change the color of a Mac's desktop. Mine is currently grey, but lately it has been red, orange and green.
Also, MacOS X has a pretty neat desktop slideshow feature that is a minor obsession of mine. You can rotate through all of the photos in a folder (well, they fade in and out) on your desktop over a specified time period. For me, it's every 5 seconds, and it's random. I find myself spending an alarmming amount of time on Google Image Search finding pics to add to my slideshow folder. (Can this be done in XP?)
