Just because he was worth that sum of money doesn't mean he has that much in liquid assets.
If he sells his MS shares to liquidise his wort, so he can donate, he will be worth less, and have less money to give to charity.
I want you to take into account all your assets, your car, your house, etc, and give 8% of that to charity.
unless you are different to Gates and dont have any assets, it should bbe a significant amount.
I dont think i would straight up hand out 8% of my income to charity, let alone 8% of how much I'm worth.

But I can see where you are coming from, 6.5 billion dollars is an insignificant amount of money. Lets not give him any more money, he isn't going to put it to good use.

    Why this obsession with UNIX?

There are plenty of other OS's they could base thier OS off, maybe even VMS.
Unix is far from perfect, I want choice but when Linux fanboys here choice they think it must be a choice which distribution you use, because Linux is the only choice.

Back to the line about VMS, because NT was built by a bunch of ex-DEC guys, the NT Kernel isn't that bad.

I mean, they could always port GNU userland over to the NT kernel, but dont MS already do that (or something similar) in their UNIX resource thing, which you can download.

Well, since grain and seed is basically the same thing, that statment doesnt really work. Maybe if you had said 'Give a man a fish and feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and feed him for his lifetime". Unless he wanted to fish in Lake Victoria, because he would be pushed out by the commercial fishing companies.

Maybe you should have said "Build a man a fire, keep him warm for a night; set a man on fire, keep him warm for the rest of his life".

In my experience (looking at GM canola) I can tell you the GM is used to make roundup resistant crops. Roundup being the broadacre herbicide used for many, many years already.
Roundup was only used to kill the plants _before_ you planted your crops, after you planted you would have to use different selective herbicides to continue to keep the weeds out. Selective herbicides are often less effective and different types will need to be used to kill different types of weeds.

So as you can see the farmers will probably use less herbicides and these are herbicides that are currently being used, not new ones.

For example, what happens when cross fertilization causes other plant organisms to also gain herbicide resistance? Do you know the answer?

And now you see why this type of GM is IMO useless. There are lots of weeds out there that have already built a resistance to roundup because it is gods choice for killing weeds and wasn't/isn't rotated enough.
When the weeds get the resistance it will not be really different from what is happening right now without the resistance.
