ROFL! I think I took this in the spirit that it was intended! ;) I just want Deluxe Paint back!!!

  2. Optimistic on Amiga's president unexpectedly resigns · · Score: 1

I didn't buy a Mac until 2 years after Commodore closed it's doors. I just bought a new G3 system. Yet I look forward to seeing a new Amiga... some day. I'm optimistic because I have a feeling that Jim Collas didn't leave because he wanted to. Lets look at the past couple of months... There's all sorts of odd messages coming out of Amiga. Nothing really fits, and nothing is very consistant. QNX to Linux in a couple of months??? Where the heck are they going?

Fast forward to today. I imagine a room full of Gateway execs looking at the goings on and deciding that something has got to change. I also imagine a bunck of Amiga execs wishing that the spotlight would go away so they can get some work done. So they get rid of Collas to return some sanity to the workplace. Anyone else out there buy this?

If the Amiga is so dead, why are we all still here talking about it? I was a great concept that we refuse to let die.

Although, I am really enjoying my G3! ;)

If the modem is the same as the one in the blue G3, then I think it's a regular modem. You can buy an adaptor to use the modem port as a regular serial port. If it was some kind of Winmodem, could you even hack anything like that into it? I just bought a 450Mhz G3... I wish I had waited just anoher month!!! It's still a great machine.

OK, I'm wrong. There was a link that sent me to some better pictures on the amiga.com site.

    interesting...

  5. Look like foam prototypes on Pictures of the New Amiga · · Score: 1

The pictures look like foam design prototypes, perhaps done by frog design. They look like they have been rolling around in the trunk of someones car. That makes me question if they are rejects that were thrown in a dumpster. Perhaps the date back to the Escom days? The designs aren't bad though. It appears to be a pizza box with a monitor set on top. I see nothing to indicate that it's a one piece(iMac like)box.

I still like my Amiga 1000 better! :)

  6. Dedicated Video Server on Ask Slashdot: Linux and Fibre Channel Storage Systems · · Score: 1

I'm not sure if the intended output is for a desktop PC or a television. If television is the destination, you may want to look at a box made for serving video. Yes, some solutions are on SGI. Avid uses them as well as some others. Quantel, Sony, Pinnacle, Techtronics all make servers. A lot of these boxes are able to mix and match different formats. Most offer uncompressed, MPEG2 and DV formats.
