Folks, it's going to get to the point that we won't be able to start a new business, sell a new product, or even name our own children without pissing off somebody.

Chilling resemblance to how European dictators were pissed if you named your children in a way that they didn't like.

Spike Lee, go to hell. Amen.

I can envision the day when Hasbro will get pissed with roguelikes, Quartex will release Nethack, and only http://userfriendly.org (as satire site) will be able to say that the new version is out (but not pointing to the ed2k, it's a satire site, not a warez site)

If I am a concerned parent who whishes his children to enjoy a good piece of art like a movie, but as a concerned parent don't want some "bad memes" (ideas, images and feelings) to taint my offspring so early, why shouldn't I be free to choose a software that helps me in my role as educator?

The reason is this: Hollywood has already drawn their cards: they will want to sell me again special dvd players which will play specially crafted dvds which have the memes that the Hollywood makers allow me to screen off to my children (so that I can jump the gunfight, but not the scene were the female co-protagonist drinks soft drink "X").

All this is a shame because:
    a) Hollywood will not satisfy all the public

    c) again Hollywood stomps on the common sense.

It was a bad day when technology compaines began investing in movie companies.

Thanks to it more movies were produced, and more money was invested for a little time, but on the long run if one of the two sides has a crises, the other half can't say it's party time :(

This entire story reminds me of the whole Rambus affair, where Rambus sued the ass off many IT firms (even Sega) on memory related patents. Then Rambus stopped appearing on major headlines after being found of "Judge shopping". And after they pissed off everyone and disappeared, nobody today is buying their inferior products anyway. Anyway, I don't understand why they haven't taken the appropriate steps to approach this situation, that is: - contact the kernel mantainers - demonstrate that the X, Y, Z, parts of the linux kernel are in violation of SCO's IP - ask the kernel mantainers to remove the infringing parts The only thing the Soviet Communist Organization is doing is smearing swine crap all over their corporate image. I wonder WHO in the IT market will ever want after this insane show of cluelessness to have something to do with them, if they already were known for shipping inferior products (and Sco Unix was considered a D.O.A product ever before Gnu/Linux hitted the 2.0 series...)... Anyway, I am really tempted about starting a long term "send postcards to the SCOmmierats" campaign.
