Yeah, for people like me, it's perfect.
I don't want to learn languages and become a programmer. I just want to do something dynamic on my web site. So, PHP allows me to get that done, without having to learn much.

Durring the great belt tightening after the bubble burst, I saw this happen countless times at several jobs. Once you start restricting people's freedoms at work, geeks tend to just push back or leave.
For many, cutting internet access would mean a severe drop in productivity too. Internet access for me doesn't directly effect my job, but it sure does lower my stress levels a bit.:)
wow, I didn't know yellow dog even still exsisted. How does it survive in a world where macs come with a sufficiently awesome unix OS, and not a hobled and crappy OS like OS9 and such?

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good call.
It's very easy for me to find files on my system, without search.
The only time I search for stuff, is when I misplace a file. Which doesn't happen very often.

Well, I IM via IRC and Bitlbee. irssi in a screen can be painfull in high lag situations.
Lagged connection is better than none at all.
For me, I could do the email thing, update the web site, and check my system info, all while in flight.
That'd be very handy.

There is almost so much that a company can look past though. Supply issues have been rumored to be bad enough to cause this sort of massive switch.
What about a pocket PC?
Or a very small laptop, like the old libretto?
Yes, only a matter of time before miniaturization made mainstream enough that laptops were viable desktop replacements in a reasonable size.
Heh, good one. :)
