    NO!

    lets face it, for the sysadm crowd of /. the python/perl stuff is COOL. for the real programmers (tm), python and perl are not really programming languages.

    i dont say that to start a flame war, its just that not all software in the planet are designed to show some crappy web page or extract some crappy data from some simple odbc link....

    the way i see it, you must have programmed assembler and C in complex projects to count as a real programmer. if you dont belive me, check the nearest job database :)

    of course, you could write it like this:

    class TheRecord {
    private int first, second;
    public int getFirst() { return first; }
    public int getSecond() { return second; }
    public int setFirst(int value) { return first = value; }
    public int setSecond(int value) { return second = value; }
    }

    but on the other hand, you dont seem to have programmed on anything but tiny VB or php projects, or have you?

    It is really surprising to see how few on slashdot actually do work on real software projects. it seems that most of the people here are sys/net admins who spice up their boring job of watching logs by visiting slashdot 25 times a day...

    building GUIs in Java (and C++ with MFC) is easier for those pros who have learned the language.

    of course, doing GUI work in by drag-n-drop in VB is the easiest option if you are a total newbie, but it wont give you 100% control of the GUI [why are real/complex components written in C++ and not VB?]. So what you basically are saying is that since im a total newbie and I can use VB but C++ is too hard for me, then VB is better than C++ (or java).
