Yes, please do. Wear your ipods and turn them up. Plug your ears so that you can't hear someone sneak up behind you and thief your wallet/pda when you're not looking.

Make Latin the default language, then EVERYBODY has to set their localization preference. This way, Latin makes a come back and no language gets more popular than another.

  4. On the subject of digital signals on Napster Shut Down Until Trial · · Score: 1

A good 6 years ago, back before I had even HEARD of the Internet and when BBS systems were thriving, I downloaded my first MP3. It was a song my friend's band made by taking a live recording, and playing it through a microphone on his computer. It sounded bad. It wasn't even close to crystal clear, not even 44khz. But it, through his music, was his expression.

    Freedom of Speech.

The music was free. He was not to entertain me and make money off of it. He was there to share his emotions and send it to an unlimited number of people. Many people downloaded it, not everyone liked it and deleted the MP3. Simple as that. No money was lost. No one starved and lived on the street because of it. He made more fans from remote areas where they would have not heard about his music with spending money on advertising that showed images but not his music.

I bought more CDs. I extracted the music and converted it to MP3 format. I ran a few FTP sites, but nothing of mass amount.

I'm guilty of sharing digital signals.

Napster is not the enemy. MP3's are not the enemy. The real enemy is musicians who want too much money for their emotions and demand to be better than everyone else.

    Welcome to the real world.

I work. I've been in bands. I make an honest living. I actually make a lot LESS than what I should be doing, but I am content. When I was in bands, I made SQUAT. Diddly squat. I earned money, but it turned around and went to my equipment. Not my fancy tour bus. Not my lavish lifestyle. Not to my producers. It went where it should and was used for REAL necessities.

At least over half of the bands today will be washed up in 5 years, unless they are old men who can't let go.

And with a burning cry, FUCK YOU RIAA.

    The boycott begins.

Genesis?! Lets leave out the fiction and put in the part where Team Slashdot is elected the Internet Legal Task Force (ILTF), protector of free rights and keeper-awayer of big bad corporates. Then we can wipe out some memories, give them the disk, make the announcement on the media circuit, then prove its true by saying "its on the disk, just see for yourself".

I need more sleep... Sorry if I offended anyone (religious people, lawyers, politicians, CEOs everywhere) but you know it wouldn't be sincere... :)

I would not use the E-nose to smell 3 things:

    2) New Hardware. You know what I'm talking about when you buy a new toy and its got that aroma rising from the circuit board.
    3) New Car Smell. Nuff said.

"I realized just a few days ago that the reason I haven't completed migrating to Linux is that I actually want to spend my time doing useful things. I'm tired of reading incomprehensible How-To documents and asking for help..."

He's got a point. I mean, sure, us geeks love to hack conf files and set up unstoppable systems, but for Joe Businessman who wants to see what all the hype of Linux is all about, he may find himself out of his league. The on-line help and mindless wizards just aren't all there. I would love to install Linux at work and try out a Unix port of Nortel Network's Site Manager, but if I spend most of my time setting things up, my win2k gunho IT director will come over wondering why the OS install program didnt set all this up. He's a business man, not a tech. (mistake #1) I mean, the man picked AD over NDS! (mistake #2) And we already have NDS in-house running along side NT's domain security. Yes, password synch there is hell. Needless to say, he's been brainwashed by the Microsoft consultants and has been keeping Linux out. (mistake #3) The point I am trying to make (in between the rants) is, Linux isn't very illiterate-friendly and its keeping it from the corporate desktop. It will get there eventually, no doubt about that.

<sarcasm>And I still have not recieved that plug-in yet. I better delete Linux and install Windows 2000. I won't mind having to disable and re-enable the netcard if I unplug it from the network and plug it right back in. I won't mind having to reboot at least twice a week. I won't mind paying a ton of money for those 63,000+ bugs.</sarcasm>

  9. True Dat... on Diamond and RIAA finally settle lawsuits · · Score: 1

If I'm ever going to take mp3s with me, I can just burn them to a cdw or cdrw since my car doesn't have a MP3/Radio. By the time it becomes affordable to install a MP3/Radio to my car, Pentium class laptops might cost about the same. A Linux MP3 Jukebox will work nicely for me..
