It already IS illegal to take a video camera into a movie tape it. That's why you don't see people doing it and if they are, they are quite sneaky about it. This law just makes it a felony. I'm still mad at the moderators for not including that fact in the story text.
IT DOESN'T MATTER. You failed to notice this law doesn't say anything about recording ability. If you take any recording device into the building showing a motion picture, you are now breaking the law (oh and they forgot to mention 2nd offence is a felony). You don't need tape in camera. By the way it is worded, your cell phone with camera that can record video makes you a felon whether you use it or not. And they don't need to call the cops. This law has provisions for any employee of the company to detain you.
What is wrong with everyone here.. Just because the law MIGHT not be used to make everyone a criminal doesn't mean it should be on the books. MPAA made a statement in regards to the outcry to pressure Taft into signing bill and said 'if this law is too broad, just pass it anyways and fix it some point later'
Seriously, cry me a river. So, politicians won't know what to think. TV execs won't know what good shows to cancel next. Phone polling is the equivalent of jury duty and we know who is sitting on juries in this country. So next time a telemarketer calls, just tell them "I love chinks."
(before people get all politically upset do a little research, I can't help it that you don't watch Conan O'Brien or even have a sense of humour)
Now that the war in Iraq and Afganistan have died down... I see the KDE/Gnome wars are finally getting the front page/. attention they so deserve.
Am I the only one who read the summary and thought the description "the leading desktop environment" seemed to be included just to stir up trouble?
Disclaimer: I prefer KDE but really like Gnome config menus
DaVinci Code??! Bah that is just going to start a flame war.. this would have been a better/. example..
The fireworks were by Gandalf: they were not only brought by him, but designed and made by him; and the special effects, set pieces, and flights of rockets were let off by him. But there was also a generous distribution of squibs, crackers, backarappers, sparklers, torches, dwarf-candles, elf-fountains, goblin-barkers and thunder-claps. They were all superb. The art of Gandalf improved with age.
But it is an interesting idea. And might yield more useful results for information seeing as the bar for publishing a book is a little higher than getting a webpage listed in google.

I can't imagine why the last guy quit! Any takers??!!?
In order to take this survey, you must enable cookies on your browser. It's easy to do - just follow these simple instructions.
Haha! They are so clueless, they don't even have instructions for Mozilla!! I thought, wouldn't it be awesome for them to see the UA strings being non-microsoft, then saw their moronic cookie notice for IE 6.0/5.5/5.0/4.1/4.0 or Netscape 4.0+... (I kinda feel sorry for them being so out of touch)
I disagree that a court saying that all persons have equal legal rights (in this case same-sex couples) is subourning anything. The role of judicial is to act as a check and balance.
What is bad in this case is that there will be legislative backlash and pre-emptive strikes against similar pro-gay decisions or legislation in other states. Don't listen to people who are so afraid of equal rights for same-sex couples who claim the courts are going to far. All courts are saying is that same-sex couples should be able to have benefits, estates, legal rights... Hell, you should support this, the marriage tax will mean more in tax revenue.
Along these lines, don't forget about OpenCores which has many useful, downloadable VHDL cores which can be used to make very powerful designs. (Including an AVR core, MP3 decoder, ethernet MAC, some RISC/ARMs, SPI, and many, many more.)
No, you don't want to test GPL in the courts against a bunch of proven-sleazy lawyers (not that I am necessarily connecting the above mentioned people with any specific claims about their sleaziness). Any case that gets rejected adds to case-law regarding GPL.
The sad thing about your arguments is that you undermine them by running your company so badly.
These self-serving "open letters" make SCO appear extremely untrustworthy.
Darl, for the sake of your case in front of the courts, for the sake of your company's ability to win customers, for the sake of everyone's blood pressure, and to save yourself further personal embarrassment, you might want to be less vocal.
Finally, some soundbites MSNBC can run with! (oh, well maybe FOXNEWS?)

X-Prize Progress Update
·
· Score: 5, Informative
TEAM: SCALED COMPOSITES
WEBSITE: WWW.SCALED.COM
TEAM LEADER: BURT RUTAN
It is expected that the next six to nine months
will involve a number of rocket powered flights
of SpaceShipOne, with each flight involving a
longer and longer burn of the hybrid engine.
The first flight may be limited to a short 15-
second burn, with later flights demonstrating
the full 60+ second burn time bringing
SpaceShipOne from 50,000 feet eventually to an
altitude of 328,000 feet (62 miles...space!).
TEAM: ARMADILLO AEROSPACE
WEBSITE: WWW.ARMADILLOAEROSPACE.COM
TEAM LEADER: JOHN CARMAC
Immediately after completion of the engine test program,
Armadillo will be testing a full scale boilerplate X PRIZE
vehicle with a captive hover test at their 100-acre test facility,
followed by some low altitude hover tests to 3,000 ft.
With these tests completed, it's their intent to do some additional
low altitude launches within
the "amateur" classification (and they
continue to work with FAA AST for a
burn time waiver). The next phase of
successively higher altitude tests and
ultimately manned X PRIZE flights
will be dependent on what the team
calls its biggest challenge: the launch
license application and accompanying
environmental review. Technically,
Armadillo claims they will be ready to
fly X PRIZE missions well before the
end of the year, but Team members are
fond of referring to the Wernher von
Braun quote: "We can lick gravity, but
sometimes the paperwork is overwhelming."
Challenges included, this
Dallas based group of bicycle repair
mechanics is relishing the prospect of
an exciting 2004.
TEAM: STARCHASER INDUSTRIES
WEBSITE: WWW.STARCHASER.CO.UK
TEAM LEADER: STEVE BENNETT
With the Thunderstar and its
new engines now in production,
Starchaser plans to fly in
2004. The team has also announced
that it will make its
propulsion system available
for sale to other X PRIZE
contestants on a commercial
basis.
TEAM: CANADIAN ARROW
WEBSITE: WWW.CANADIANARROW.COM
TEAM LEADER: GEOFF SHEERIN
Next steps for the team will include continued testing of
the engine to prepare it for actual flight onboard the first
Canadian Arrow spacecraft that is scheduled for launch
next year. When successful, the Arrow will make Canada
the fourth nation to put humans into space.
TEAM: DA VINCI PROJECT
WEBSITE: WWW.DAVINCIPROJECT.COM
TEAM LEADER: BRIAN FEENEY
Da Vinci Project celebrated the 100th anniversary of
powered flight with a Technical conference and press
evening on December 16th & 17th. Early in 2004 da Vinci
Project hopes to receive its license to launch from the
Canadian Government and begin a sequence of test
flights culminating in an series of flights to win the X
PRIZE.
TEAM: PABLO DE LEON & ASSOCIATES
WEBSITE: WWW.PABLODELEON.COM
TEAM LEADER: PABLO DE LEON
During 2004 we will concentrate in launch test
of at least two half scale vehicles and in launch
operations. Several hybrid static firing tests will
also be performed. Construction of a full scale
capsule will begin in July 2004. This capsule
will be used for training, simulation and to
study mating/demating techniques.
TEAM: HIGH ALTITUDE RESEARCH CORP. (HARC)
WEBSITE: WWW.HARCSPACE.COM
TEAM LEADER: TIM PICKENS
HARC will continue progressing toward full scale
launches while keeping safety first. Hardware design
and testing will continue into 2004 with a
launch of the Liberator Escape Tower and Capsule
in the 1st half of 2004. HARC is planning for a
summer launch of the "Little Joe" version of the
Liberator to an altitude of approximately 40 kilometers.
The first full scale launch is planned for
late summer and will be followed by another
launch in the fall. The two X PRIZE competition
flights will take place in late 2004, and there are
already astronaut candidates pitching in to help
move the Team toward that goal.
On this subject, there is some [COOL_INSULT_ADJECTIVE] guy over at btse*rch.net (please don't use his product) that wrote a BT search engine which strips the HTML parsing for new BT links. The problem is that EVERY person who uses this and clicks update EVERY time will be hitting the full site and leading to 10K hits/day. Very bad for smalled BT sites out there.
can I get one of those car dealership balloons and just float a wire and an antenna up there?? I'm sure some neighbors would complain, but I believe FCC rules override community laws (ie. you have the right to put up DirecTV dish even if the neighborhood made it illegal)
I agree. Notes did have too much of a database feel to it with replication being way too big of a deal. But I actually think Notes helped shape this article. I often created those exact same groupings as they have displayed. Notes is the ONLY email I've ever been able to program to make more useful as in groupings and sorting a folder by views (IANAP).

In response to Ohio resident's concerns on a similar bill now before Gov. Please be my secret santa!!! (how did you know that is what I've been wishing for)
My dad is a city planner for uppity snobby suburb.. They tried to make satellite dishes illegal for their unsightlyness.. But you can't do it.
I use my neighbors AP from about 500ft down the street through trees. (Always at least 1Mbps solid connection)
can I get one of those car dealership balloons and just float a wire and an antenna up there?? I'm sure some neighbors would complain, but I believe FCC rules override community laws (ie. you have the right to put up DirecTV dish even if the neighborhood made it illegal)
either:
(a) put a web cam pointed at a thermometer (duh)
(b) hire someone to check on your house regularly
It's not like it is your single most expensive investment in your life!!
Hey why bother paying someone $10/day to check in on things?! (duh)
I like this idea for Mr. Ralsky - send a Christmas card

The obvious trouble with this, is spammers will re-double their efforts and send twice and much traffic if filters reduce their spam by half.
Talk about arms race.. Now spammers will maintain blacklists for spamholes!
