What? You think governments cannot tap into your POTS conversations? I worked for a "foreign" telecom company and there was a project to develop Lawful Interception capabilities on high speed ATM swtiches. It is required by US law and that of many other countries, so if you want to sell in those markets you have to provide the ability to intercept telecommunications on your equipment.
My Handspring Visor has started acting up and I've been debating buying a Prism or Palm M505. With a statement like this, am I going to buy a product that will eventually be unsupported? No way.
I for one am glad that this option is available. I use Mandrake and Debian. Mandrake on the desktop, Debian on the server. I download the ISO images so in theory I don't owe any of these distros a single penny. However, as my contribution to "The Cause" I make a point of buying once a year a retail-copy of Mandrake.
Why retail? Because in the end it helps the market analyst drones realize that people are using the stuff and are buying it off-the-shelf. I now have a second option that more directly benefits the creators of the distribution and cuts out the middle-men. My dilemma is that I then don't count as a Linux user in the eyes of the world.
Unfortunately Debian is getting shortchaned in the process. Maybe I should contribute to Debian as well... Where is Debian's donations page?
I have one question for Mr. Buswell: Have YOU contributed any code to Linux? Have YOU bought your distribution? If the answer is yes to any one of these then your conscience should be clear. However, if the answer is no and you are leeching your distributions from the net without giving anything back, then I have the utmost contempt for you sir.
They really rushed this to market. It took 5 minutes to crash it. Later I found out that I can't add mime types (a.k.a. helper apps), which to me makes it pretty much a useless browser.
For the Mozilla bigots, M18 also doesn;t yet support helper apps. At least not in the Win2K release.

Check out the European Telecommunications Standards Institute to see that is is not just the US government that requires this capability.
