You still have a Legislature that has to approve his budget for the year - you can't dump all the blame off on him.
Also, it's false that anyone who voted for Bush supports "don't tax and spend (and spend and spend and spend)" - people vote (or not vote) for candidates for any variety of reasons. Some things are "deal makers or breakers", and others just don't matter as much (individually). I don't like the guy as a President either, but lets try to maintain some semblance of rationality and honesty, shall we?
I don't mean this as a flame or anything, but it's becoming a LOT easier for Democrats to justify "Tax and Spend". Lately, just about every Republican in office is for "Don't Tax, But Spend Just As Much As If We Were". As a Republican, you should go kick your party in the goods for being so completely irresponsible. I can respect someone who wants a minimal government and minimal taxing; I don't agree, but I can definitely respect it. I have no respect for someone who wants an epic government and taxing that doesn't even support it. That's just ridiculous.
(Hopefully people can discuss this without getting their panties in a bunch:O)
Fuck the people. The people put us where we are, the people deserve what they get. I don't blame the President or the Congress at all anymore. I don't blame lobbyists or any other special interest group. Once the people let themselves be led about like cattle, they deserve to be treated like it.
Ahh, but this is where things such as Launch come into play. I've found so many great indie bands from there, that I never, ever would have found otherwise. You're more than likely never going to become a superstar...but...is that really your goal?:]
Yes, and some people, when they go to that big bright blue room with green and black flooring don't want to be on the phone when we do it. When I'm out and about, I refuse to be on the phone. if it's necessary, that's one thing, but generally speaking, if I'm going to have a long conversation, I'm going to be in the comfort of my home.
At first it had me a bit put off, until I came to a similar conclusion to yours. Then I started giggling. I guess it was stupid of me to even respond on the first case, but I guess I gave him more respect than he ended up deserving. Ah well.:D
There are independent studios that you can record at as well. And yes, they CAN come out sounding really damn good when it's all said and done. Would Britney Spears be able to do it, if she had no money and was just starting? No. But someone who relied on instrumentation and vocals from within the band COULD do it, quite easily. I have TONS of music for you to listen to that sounds wonderful (even if it isn't what you particularly like) that is done independent of anyone. I even have some stuff of two guys who did much of it in their LIVING room and it sounds superb (if you're interested in hearing THAT, go try out Pinback - Microtonic Wave or "B"(Offcell EP) on Launch - if you don't like the music itself, that's fine, but focus mostly on the quality of the production).
It can be done. It may be more work on the part of the musicians, but it's also cheaper. The only thing that would be prohibitively difficult would be in the distribution of physical CDs (but I guess that's where Amazon comes in, eh?). And when you get to the internet...shoo. It all comes together there.
Who the fuck cares if it's a different drummer? Why is that drummer any better than any other drummer? Oh wait, "better" implies opinion, doesn't it? Wow! Funny how that works out that your whole argument boils down to "my opinion is that this is awesome and since you don't like it you suck". And you were saying something about sheep? You're demanding everyone act exactly as you do - guess who else does that? The leaders of the "sheeple masses". So, technically, you're just as fucking bad as he is, you self-important, arrogant jackass.
Oh my, back in the days of yore. Well, about 10 years ago, it was a big thing. You weren't allowed to buy clothes anywhere other than certain locations, or else you were a poser, blah blah blah. The bottom line is that it's pathetic. Who cares? People use what they use. If you want to convince them to use Mac, explain to them the advantages of using a Mac, but acting as if you're automatically intelligent or stylish because you use it is one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard.
(I'm not focusing on you at all, just kind of ranting, in general, about the "Macs are the second coming of Christ!" crowd. It's just sad. I have very specific reasons for using a PC, and Windows, in particular. Other people are the same; cost, or some other specific, particular need. In terms of cost, with the new Mac Mini, things will be a bit different on that front (I would seriously consider advising my grandmother to buy and use one of those, rather than any other computer), but a Mac, for me, and my particular, specific needs AND desires, is completely unrealistic. All these apple zealots who think their world is the only world need to wake up and visit reality once in a while. )
Congratulations for flunking reading 101. I said "Acting like you're cool for having 'individuality'" is hypocritically ridiculous". That's my point. Get off your high horse and just accept that people are going to do what they want to do, and that, most of the time, they have a reason for what they do. You don't have to live their lives, but stop trying to make them live yours. It's not that fucking difficult.
How about "even automotive engineers buy prebuilt cars"? Chefs and food doesn't work because food is consumed much more often than cars or computers.
In which case, you have a point, but I think deriding others for being "stupid" and "styleless" when you're doing essentially the exact same thing is ridiculously hypocritical. Just like the goth kids going to hot topic to "be different" - just like everyone else going there too. Have you ever hung out with or been or talked to a goth or punk? Boy do they hate the people who shop at gap. Or emo hipsters who hate everyone who doesn't shop at goodwill. They're all fucking retarded. You pick what fits you and your needs. You're not qualified to judge for someone you don't even know what it is they do or do not need. (When I say you, I'm using the "general" you, not YOU in particular). All these apple zealots who think they're soooooooo much better - get down off your high horse and accept that what works for you doesn't always work for the next person. One size does NOT fit all. Jeeze.
I guess that fits your lifestyle. Me, when I'm out and about and need to make a phone call, it's more along the lines of "where are you?", "where am I?", "do we need milk?", "how much beer should I get?", "I'm on fire, what do I do?", etc, etc. It's a 1 minute conversation, tops. When I want to have an actual conversation, well, I want to be home to do it. I know I'm not the only one.
Like I said before, I'm sure that VoIP isn't going to be a "niche", but I'm also sure it's not going to take over from cell phone useage. For some people, it just makes sense to have a cell phone. For others, it isn't monetarily practical (and, frankly, those little phones suck when you try to hold them against your shoulder and talk). I'm pretty confident they'll both hold very healthy shares of the market in the long run, provided the telcos (or cablecos) don't slap them down in some manner.
It also shows you're completely incapable of doing it all yourself, and you need someone else to put it together for you. If you can't figure out how to build a computer that has extremely stable and fast hardware AND make your loins quiver, then yeah, I suppose a Mac is the only way you're ever going to be "a genius with (someone else's) style".
But, hey, if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, go for it. The rest of us just point and laugh at your "uniqueness". Reminds me of the 'punk' and 'goth' kids who shop at Hot Topic.
Yeah, I guess you're right. I mean, why would anyone pay 25$ for unlimited useage at any time in the US and Canada when they can pay 60$ a month for 500 or 600 minutes daytime and free nights and weekends?
I use my cell phone for emergencies or when I'm in the car; smallest plan I can get. When i'm out doing something, I'm out doing something, not talking on the #%*!ing phone. And I'll be damned if I wait until 9pm just to hold a relatively decent conversation with someone.
I know there are a lot of people out there like me. I disagree with your "niche" assessment; it will never take over the whole market, no, but it will have more than 1 or 2% of the market share.
A better analogy would be that the 119 people ran in and took the candy that had their name on it and wasn't due to be delivered until the next day. I'm not saying the meaning behind your analogy is incorrect, but at least paint an appropriate picture next time.:)
What in the hell are you talking about? I, and the grandparent to my initial post, never said that everything in fiction can be applied to real life. He was talking about one particular facet of a fictional tale - to be used as an anecdote, as you will. When you shrugged it off as completely implausible for the sole purpose that it came from a fictional story, I sarcastically responded that you're obviously right, because fiction can never be applicable to real life. I don't why you decided to go off on such a tangent, as it really has no bearing on our particular discussion, but since you zoomed off, I may as well follow.
How many corporations can I name that didn't use their powers to consolidate their bases? None. That's not the purpose of a corporation. Their purpose is to make money. That doesn't make it right, though - not at all costs, at least. The purpose of a military is to win wars, but, as we know, not at all costs (ie: killing any who lie in their path, using nuclear weapons, etc, etc.) The point great great grandparent was trying to make isn't that you can't, it's that you shouldn't. Gulliver's Travels were perfect in not only showing this, but also showing that maybe, just maybe, those ants you trod upon so carelessly would take exception to your actions and react accordingly. Was it an overestimation of the "ants" reaction in this situation? Yes. For now.
How about you do the smart thing and go back to University and become a lawyer (specializing in patent law)? Burgers are tasty and all, but not "hundreds of thousands of dollars" tasty.
I mean, sure, you probably couldn't ever look at yourself in the mirror again, but hey, at least you can go on extended vacations/holidays to the tropical-island-of-your-choice - and never have to worry about money again:O
If only it were that easy. Last I checked, human beings were quite capable (nay, proficient!) at lying. However, there are times when they tell the truth also. So which is it? Is Anne lying, or telling the truth? Or is it some mixture of the two?
I guess in those instances you have to look at the actions, not the words. The MPAA hasn't done a whole lot, but they are very similar to the RIAA, and the RIAA, at the least, has shown NO respect to P2P networks. They've done everything they could to shut down as many P2P networks as they could, and only when that didn't work, did they finally actually attack the actual problem (the users).
But the MPAA is essentially getting a bad wrap for the DVD Jon situation (which showed them to be a bunch of jerks (imo)), but also because of their recording industry counter part, the RIAA. Is guilt by association fair? No, but you can't blame people for being extraordinarily wary. Maybe the MPAA will be different, but do you really want to rest on your laurels and wait for them to roll over you, your rights, or something you deeply care about before you try to fight? In those situations, it's usually too late to do anything.
...but why does this affect anyone other than eBay? TECHNICALLY, they are doing the auctioning. You're just putting up your item for auction. Is it illegal for you to pay an auctioneer 500$ to have them auction off your house? How could this apply to the user? THEY aren't accepting bids - the software is, and the software was created by and managed by eBay. The user isn't auctioning a damn thing, they're having ebay do it for them.
Oh, come on, you know the moderators here are on crazy. They're the same people who post here, and you've read their comments. Slashdot is some sort of Mecca for insanity. It makes me tingle down there.
(That's me being silly, in case your funny bone is still broken =O )
