In all seriousness, the people of Tennessee need to stomp this law into the dirt, before it can spread throughout the country. You may deny it, and say that only the hicks, to use a generalization that would only be relevant in NYC and LA, would approve of something like this, but it's only a matter of time before a whole bunch of states pass this kind of legislation.

On a side note, the -IAA crowd couldn't buy off Congress all at once to get their way, so they're purchasing state legislatures one-at-a-time now? Why don't they just save up for a few months or years or whatever to get what they want? It's what the rest of us have to do!

Am I supposed to believe that in the last 5-6 years huge numbers of upper-middle and upper class people just magically needed these capabilities all of a sudden?

You make a very valid point with the capabilities thing, however it's not the real reason why rich, urban-dwelling people purchase SUVs. The real reason for the increases in purchases of SUVs by mid-to-upper class yuppies is because of the cost and what I like to call the "Flair Factor". When it costs 90 large for a hummer, the people who would utilize the ground clearance and off-road capabilities of the vehicle cannot afford it. It's proven time and time again that people in rural areas cannot afford luxuries like a car that costs as much as the double-wide they are currently living in. The real reason people buy Hummers and Excursions and Escalades are to show off. Plain and simple. When someone compares their new Hummer to their buddy's new 5-series BMW, bragging rights go to the guy in the Hummer. Don't think so? How about this:

"My new 525 can do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds."
"So what? My Hummer can park one wheel on the hood of your car and still have the other three on the ground? How are you going to smoke me now asshat?"

See what I mean? It's all about one-upping another, thereby demonstrating that one rich yuppie has a smaller tallywacker than another. (My apologies to any Bavarian Motor Works fans in the audience, but I don't have the specs on the new sedans memorized, am not going to memorize them, and didn't feel like taking the time to look them up, you nutjobs)

Have you heard of any major studies done on the cause of death of MDMA? I was wondering if they had defininitively nailed down the cause of brain lesions and death attributed to the use of MDMA. Was it the MDMA itself, or was it the use of other, impure and mis-marketed drugs?

I believe the previous poster was trying to say that the beaurocratic(sp?) attitude present in the national government is more oriented toward the obtaining and keeping of power. He was not saying that all individual people care only about becoming higher up on the totem pole, but the majority of the people in appointed positions, i.e. Congress, the White House, and Federal Courts, are concerned only with the gathering and hording of power.

In many small towns the local radio station plays an imporant role. They cover the local high school sports, weather, and community affairs.

Not in mine. My hometown AM radio used to cover all basketball games, all football games, and the state baseball playoffs. Once ClearChannel bought them out, my senior year in high school we didn't even get the football playoffs broadcast to our town, because it was election time. Clear Channel has been buying out small-town, fairly successful radio stations and ruining them for the sake of corporate profits, i.e. more advertising that nobody listens to and less programming relevant to the local station's audience.

On the other hand, the president's credibility and the perception of his intellectual capabilities are so far gone that it doesn't matter anyway if the speeches are edited.
