The Internet is already the most dissappointing thing to come along since cable TV. Excessive monitoring, taxation, and regulation will just cause people to find other things to do with their time. Maybe regulation can be a good thing after all...
I have had no trouble at all with AllDomains.com. They notify me by mail and email when action is required, and they allow me to lock and auto-renew my domains brainlessly if I want.
I'll give them a thumb's up, mostly because I just don't have to think about them - ever.
You know, it's always the thief that declares his right to the spoils.
If it is as you assert that bands make all their money from touring, then answer this...
1. why do they bother putting out CDs at all?
2. where are the bands saying "screw media, we're releasing everything on the 'net for free to boost our ticket sales"?
The fact is that just because something is easy to steal doesn't make it yours.
The bands that release their stuff free on the 'net are garage bands who aren't ready for primetime.

Nah patenting it this far out just means they think someone else is getting close, and they'd rather sue it from them than develop it themselves.
