Flickr's reboot came with the new iPhone app, which was completely unexpected in that, it 's actually damn good. Same with Yahoo weather. Yes, Flickr has decided that they're not courting Pro customers. They'd already lost that market 2 years ago, so it's no skin off their nose. They don't WANT you to buy pro, they need the ad revenue and impressions far more.
There is no film that does what Kodachrome does - there are films that do things differently, "better" in some terms, but Kodachrome responded to a photographer who knew what they were doing in a unique way, the same as a certain pigment of paint did with a painter, or emacs vs. vi. It's notable in it's passing for two very important reasons - 1. Kodachrome introduced the world to color in photos, and 2. Kodachrome was a fascinatingly complex technology, invented by two guys that are the epitome of what we used to think of as American ingenuity.
The speakers ARE in the white space - they fire down, using the desk as a sounding board, instead of blaring into the user. Better sound seperation and sound quality, without ugly holes. Speakers to the left and right of the trackpad on a MacBook? Besides the idiocy of placing a speaker by the hard drive, or placing a metal mesh right where your wrist might be, I'm going to bet that an off-center keyboard would drive folks nutty right quick.
Symmetry, btw, IS important - asymmetrical things distract you, and an asymmetrical laptop would make you nuts even if you didn;t catch the reason why...
In short, yes, you are out of step:)
If you have an iMac with bad caps, the you have the first or second gen design. The iSight model is ugly as all hell, with em shield, ie foil, and other nasty bits. The intel iMacs look almost the same as the G5 isights inside.
You don't have to use the EasyPay - it's an option. If you want to pay w/ cash, or split tender, or use a discount(education, company, etc.), then wait at the register. If you wanna by an ipod cable, ipod, or 1 small item, use the EasyPay and get 5 minutes of your life back. As far as reciepts go, if you must have a paper copy, you gotta wait. Deal. Heck, any apple product is registered when sold, so the reciept is more useful for returns, but unneeded for service.
And yeah, the units are Symbol's running Windows Mobile. Sick sad world, neh? They're also using a standalone encrypted wireless network.
So, what about..
MacPaint? MacWrite? iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, iDVD?
Ask the Summerians - Names count.
Plus, I've had a few clients refuse to use GIMP due to the percieved insulting name
Quibble: There are digital SLR's, and 35mm film cameras. Most digital SLR's use the same form-factor as a 35mm SLM, but...they ain't 35mm Digital SLRs. Pedantic mode off.:)
For the 200$, a used Canon Elan II would be a good camera, the rebels are just too plasticy and not what I'd get for someone that wants to try more than snapshots. In AF nikons, there's a lot out there, but be aware that the newer AF bodies do not work with older MF lenses, and indeed, there are several generations of nikkor lenses that don't all work well with all cameras.
In the manual-focus game, a Nikon FM-2 or FE-2 is a great body - tough, easy to use, and nikkor MF glass is not hugely expensive. I'd avoid going the Canon route cause you'll never be able to use the lenses on a new body, but starting with Nikon MF, not only can you updgrade the body - although many of the digital bodies will not meter with older lenses, you can get an adapter to use Nikkors on a Canon SLR - I have an F2 and an EOS A2, and shoot my 15mm nikkor on the EOS more than on the F2.
Whatever camera you get, make sure teh enduser has a chance to play with it BEFORE you get it - ergonomics count for a lot, and different people like different bodies - a big part of the Nikon vs Canon holy war is over the subtle placement of our fingers - and a big draw of the Leica M6 is the "feel" of the camera. So playing with the shiny is important b4 you buy it and dedicate yerself to a lens mount.
Macs in spaaaaaaaaaace....

RAID for Zero-G?
·
· Score: 2, Informative
The Xraid would likely be tought enough, but sadly, the Xserve itself my not be able to handle launch. It's so thin, that many users have bent the tope covers, or had the entire unit warp on them.
Cooling the units shouldn't be an issue, the fans are powerful enough that in null gravity they'd be able to propel the unit:)
And, i know that at least one company was planning on using G4's in space, so there should be some studies on radiation effects and such on those processors floating around somewhere....

Forget mechwarrior - no mention of the complete relaunch of Battletech, either. Ah well.

HEY! MORON! It's Mac, or Macintosh, or OS X. Not MAC!
