    XMPP has a facility to pipe file transfers through the server. They do it similar to MIME where they encode it, break into small messages and send it down the pipe. It's slower but it works through most firewalls and NATs. You can also do direct P2P with fallback to server if there is a problem.

    Yes, GTalk was closed for a few months and then they opened it up for S2S. In Fact, I talk to all my friends on GTALK via S2S from personal XMPP (Jabber) server.

    They are not even publishing the correct DNS SRV records yet for AOL.

    You would be surprised how big email gets when it's a bunch of people sending around documents to each other. I've had bosses where everything is word doc attached to an email. Even 2 and 3 sentence stuff was word docs. After a while, that starts to add up even if they are using something like Exchange/Lotus with single instance storage. Since it's politics and they were archiving email for CYA purposes, I'm sure mail files got large quickly. I'm sure it's simple stupidity with some malice thrown in. "Hey Backup person, these tapes are to be recycled, we have additional copies of their contents."

    Actually, when most people in a company are equipped with CrackBerries, people will send out stuff that has to be acted on within 15 minutes or it's useless. I admit that too many people are freaking addicted to devices but iPhone 15 minute pull email technology is too slow for business.

    One would hope that it would be "reasonable" lawyer fees only. If you sued me because I screwed and I knew it and you got some high priced attorney, I would quickly settle to minimize fees. Also, if I knew you could do that, I'm likely to work with you when you bring original claim to my attention before you go get the lawyers.

    PTT Phones (Nextel is best example) do use the network. Even if you PTT someone next to you, the actual "call" goes from your phone to tower, then tower to phone. If phones are not on the same tower, it goes phone -wireless-> Tower -copper-> Tower -wireless-> phone.

    For the ones offering "off network" PTT use FRS frequencies for communication so range is limited to other headsets within 1 mile or so. (Depending on conditions)

    And as the server, I can control who I talk to. I don't see all the bitching, this is a two way street. If the server doesn't like a clients behavior, server can stop talking to client. Same thing in real life, if I no longer wish to have a conversation with someone, I walk away thereby ending the conversation. If these sites are sick of the "freeloading" Adblock users, don't "talk" to them anymore. Issue a 403 Forbidden, say your server will not talk to Adblock users and call it a day.

    I'm having a customer related problem of geek kind with them. Their SPF records are shot to hell and Blockbuster online emails aren't coming from "authorized" email address therefore my spam filter ends up rejecting them.

    Windows 2000 is still getting Security Patches. It should still continue to get security patches till 2010.

    Any support for 98 is gone and there are some unpatched security holes that Microsoft answer is "upgrade"

    The "evil" Mr. Heston held NRA rally because it had been planned for many months to be held in Denver and there was no way to change it for legal reasons. NRA in fact canceled most of meetings except for a reception and one annual meeting required by law. I can't think of any other tragedy he showed up and held a meeting. If your talking about Flint which Moore referenced, that was 8 months later during election time. Moore trickery editing has been well known and in fact is quite dishonest.

    New York does have what most people call "reasonable restrictions" on handgun ownership. Helping much? Britain banned most guns and is now most monitored society in Europe. I'll take gang bangers blasting each other (95% of murders) over being completely monitored by government.

    Ebay is even more restrictive when it comes with magazines (clips are what Garands use). They only allow restrictive capacity magazines (10 rounds or less) to be sold despite that standard capacity magazines are allowed to be owned by private citizens in all but a handful states.

    Actually, it's called SQL Server 2005 Express edition. .Net 2 programs can either directly access the Database or you can set up a full blown SQL Server and connect via TCP/IP. If you do it via TCP/IP, multiple users can be accessing it without issue.

    You don't see EU collapsing because they crack down on hate mongers but you do see them putting up cameras and proposing DNA databases. Little steps at a time. Hitler didn't come to power either in one day, he took gradual progress steps till it was too late.

    If you want to write a book about how Asians are devil race and problem with America and use some crappy facts to back it up, go for it. Same 1st Amendment that gives you the right to write such a book gives everyone else the right to write a book calling you a crackpot.

    What are you going to do when that "evil revolutionary group" has now been declared to be ACLU or NRA which you might be a member. (At least NRA will be armed)

    Problem with this systems is they require constant communication with auth server. We had them at my University and on occasion, when servers went down or Mr. shovel beat Mr. Optic Wire, they would have to place them in some special mode where any swipe of card (credit cards included) would open the door. Normally, campus police could accomplish this function but it would be annoying till they got there to pop open the doors. I couldn't see this working for a sites where it's geographically dispersed AND the time your going to want outsiders in there is during outages.

    Since on Windows, iTunes doesn't do the transfer as much as it communicates with low level service call "iPod Service" to facilitate the transfer. I imagine something in Fast User Switching is fouling up this service and iTunes communication with it. I agree that it should work properly but it won't. Still for 99% of people, iTunes is both easy to use, easy to maintain and syncs with iPod without issue.

    For Majority of people who run Windows or Mac OS X, iPods are braindead to use. Plug into computer, let iTunes replicate all the playlist and music over along with any TV Shows you have downloaded. Unplug, walk around with those white headphones and look chill. Why would you find dragging and dropping from explorer easier? Something tells me Apple Engineering and Marketing Departments know their main audience better.

    Easy, pay a little extra money for email with a provider that offers IMAPv4 access. That way you have your email stored on a server and can still access via webmail. Cost a little more but better then leaving it with Google. It scares me how much data people are willing to leave with companies that a vested interest in cataloging everything they can get their hands on and have limited set of ethics.

    No, they are exploiting ANI. However a patch for this exploit has been released by Microsoft and is available via Windows Update.

    Most gamers I know have hardware that will run Vista/Aero and have had that hardware for about year and half. Many cards true are still stuck on DX9 but I would say that's more a software/driver issue then card issue. Most gamers are simply not moving to Vista because many of their games either don't work on Vista or they work but they have issues. Vista security features are really screwing with many games. Gamers will switch to Vista when all these issues are worked out.
