How about the following:
" Attribute this work to me. Do NOT sue anybody on account of this work"
since the main purpose of GPL is to avoid the lawsuits, why use lawyer like language? keep them out of the loop all together.
I am talking from real experience. I have tried not working for more than an year. I was taking an extra year at college. I thought along the same lines as you do now. Believe me it is WAY too difficult to not work at all. after some time, as i was not doing any useful work, i had to start doing needless work ( like going to a store one mile away to get a pen which i could have got in a minute from the near by store) just to keep going. not working leads to uneasiness, frustation and above all diminished ability to work. now I am finding it difficult to start working even as i have started to seriously screw my life by not working. it is best to keep working even though it makes no sense.
wish you luck in NOT working if you plan to go ahead and really try it.
wow! you are thinking of a matrix that uses our brain for computation, besides using our body heat for energy. totaal world domination. all your brains are belong to us!
this is both to the parent and the grand parent. do we really know what are we talking about? we really don't yet understand the brain fully, do we? let me play the devil's advocate. what if it turns out after years of research that our brain is only a preprogrammed ( by 'God') machine, programmed to simulate what we now call 'emotions' and 'intellegence'. we wouldn't know the difference because we can't theoritically can't think out side the box( called our brain) in this scenario. accept it, we don't really know what inteligence is really, but only intuitively feel that we understand it. until it can be expressed in numbers we don't understand it. and how do we know how self-aware the house-fly is? we just feel that it is self aware.
if a machine is able to simulate emotions and intelligence and self awareness to an extent that no human on the earth can catch it simulating, then the scenario in the article can occur.
we all feel that somehow predictable behaviour (comps programmed by humans) is inferior to the wetware inteligence we pocess. may be this is just our ego which we are unaware of. we are not able to pass the judgement on this until we understand our brains( a theoritical impossibility according to uncertainity principle). we are just kidding ourselves.
"...Fortunately for me my step-bro works at Microsoft, so I can get the software through him for cheap..."
fortunately for me, we get pirated copies of XP pro from hongkong and singapore for about Rs 80(less than $2) almost everywhere in india. other than this...
I don't see people talk of opera much at/. I used to use IE long back, till I found about opera from fravia and since then I have been hooked. I tried firefox for a whie, after hearing stories daily on/. but opera is much better in the user-interface. to be honest I didn't give firefox much time, just sufficient to find that I loved opera even more. also the bloatiness of opera is much less than others

(if you are using opera, you can just double-click on the above and press g rather than cutting-and-pasting)
As an indian engineer I agree. We also appriciate the europian fellows for thier professionalism and work ethics. we have all kind of people here. maybe you have to get the right sort of people( given the population advantage, you are certain to fond lots of them). though I agree the general indian mentality is to reap max benifits from one's efforts. so may be they need clear motivation. just make sure they see the motivation.
I used to think for long that a nuclear war is not possible now 'cause people have learned from the past and have matured. but now it is clear that those mature people are loosing the control and new peoeple without the maturity are taking over( after the cold war). Unless we face something similar in our life time we won't realy learn( and our learnign will die with us).
May be the parent shd be modded insightful.I have done the same and had a HUGE difference in the noise. This should be tried before all the other fancy things.
Anyway, as for your Win95 example, you are hurting their business
A good business model is to do things that people like. I'd like to use win95( just for word processing, say) rather than XP. since only non-availability of 95 forces me to by XP, MS tries to make win 95 unavailable. this is more towards immoral, though legal.
