driver integration for ATI like with nVidia. ATI has had linux drivers for a while now and I think not providing proper card support is one of the major show-stoppers for people trying linux.
since the drivers are proprietary there are "issues", but with nvidia SUSE YOU provides a automatic download link. I want one for ATI!
yeah, and what are all these useless laws about theft and murder for? it's not like they'd stop and apologise if you said "hey, that's illegal you know!"
I'm going to learn opengl in a few months during the holidays before I start my PhD. I work with simulations of the Sun and use IDL to visualise the results. but I think it would be cool to have more "realistic" pictures, plus having the hardware acceleration has benefits when dealing with a lot of data (IDL gets real slow for 2D simulations at resolutions above a few hundred squared)
these simulations are done on beowulf clusters (imagine that!) so I think opengl is the best (the only other API I know of being directx)
it's not that linux etc. are 100% secure, it's that they are orders of magnitude more secure than a product that costs orders of magnitude more money.
do you guys have day jobs as lobbyists for anti-safety legislature or something? "well congressman, no car will be 100% safe so what's the point of wanting us to provide seatbelts/air bags/crumple zones/non-exploding gas tanks?
I'm currently downloading the latest West Wing episode on my uni DC++ network (0.5-10 MB/s). I also watch Simpsons and Scrubs via download.
apart from when cooking like I mentioned, TV just isn't worth it. I can watch the shows I download whenever I feel like it, and if I couldn't download them I just wouldn't bother (or would get the DVD).
I'm the same. I'm at uni and TV is more hassle than it's worth (though I do watch the shared TV in the kitchen while cooking).
and either I'm just getting old, or pretty much all modern music IS shit. either way I don't buy it. in fact I haven't heard the "top 10" for ages now, and am too scared to do so given the state it was in the last time I did.
here in UK at odeon cinemas you order on the internet (quick and easy), then at the cinema just stick in your credit card and out comes the tickets (and card!).
the only downside is you can't yet choose your seats (you can at the larger cinemas) but it seems to give the "better" seats first.
last night I booked a couple of tickets from a premier on Friday, and using this system was the only way to ensure getting into the very first LOTR screenings.
BUT 10 mins is the minimum: 10 x 1 min walks are worthless
plus they have to be BRISK walks such that your heart rate is consistently high. you can walk slowly around the block all day long and all you'll do is get sore feet and damage your joints if you're not wearing correct footwear.
basically, you can do thigs while you exercise such as listen to music or watch TV, but trying to exercise while doing something else is pointless. exercise is only worthwhile if it's the main priority. for example, if you were on a treadmill you should be walking briskly enough that you're breathing hard: you could talk to a friend for a short time, but definitely not take business calls unless your company doesn't care about appearing at all professional.
to be effective exercise must be the current priority, therefore effective exercise cannot exist in the business place during the time you're being paid to work.
all you'd do is cause yourself some kind of injury.
exercise is only worthwhile if you have a warm-up, then at least 10 mins of sustained higher heart rate, then a warm down.
what you're describing might make you feel better about yourself but apart from possible minor placebo effects will do nothing to make you healthier, and will probably damage yourself.
no, it might have been an ATTEMPT, but it certainly wasn't humour.

thanks for the info.
;-)
I probably wasn't clear, but I don't intend to use OpenGL for actual analysis, just for the pretty pictures and movies afterwards
I'll check out VTK

>plus two hours of my time
jeez, get over yourself. it's entertainment, if you have time for fun then that time is worth nothing.
>Anyway, since you use IDL on a Beowulf I'm assuming they finally added multithreading.
maybe they have but the way I used it the sims were run on a beowulf, but then IDL only ran on a workstation to analyse the data afterwards.
then ffs open your eyes.
I'll start you off with one word: MSBlaster.
yeah, you were right, if you change "instead of" to "as well as".
which then means that you predicted that MS would re-release XP... er, wasn't 98->98SE->ME a bit of a clue?
DRM
... wait

I hate hearing this kind of reply.
WE ALL KNOW THAT NOTHING IS 100% SECURE.

s/"during the utilization phase"/"during use"/g
are you insane?
then you just push the mess back one level - what counts as "income"?
e.g. $1,000 student loan. is the tax -200, 0 or 200?
no.
1. it wouldn't be as flexible as a DVD, and probably quite a bit more expensive.
2. I can't store ~300MB episodes like I can ~3MB songs on my HDD.
yeah same here (even the 19" monitor!)

I just read your post. Here's the link.

I hate anything called "lite", and Express -> Outlook -> nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
I thought that once it was 1.0 or thereabouts its official name would be "Mozilla Browser" anyway?
yes 3x10 min walks = 1x30 min walks,
BUT 10 mins is the minimum: 10 x 1 min walks are worthless

yeah he was so upset he couldn't get a first post he decided to build this so he couldn't hear himself sobbing.
sorry but that is bullshit.

it says CD-R cos it's a CD-R drive (hint: the DVD drive is empty but still says DVD).
so there's no reason to think it's a "backup".
>Now I've got to "fix" it since 90% of the people use IE so they'll think it's broke
now YOU are part of the problem. just have a browser detection, and have a message for IE that their browser is obsolete and point them to firefox.
looks just like XP. I was hoping for something better - I thought there'd be hardware-accelerated coolness all over the place.
so why the fuck is it taking them another 2 years to get this on the shelves?
