it occurs to me that people dismissing global warming are either
1. arrogant Americans (mostly) who refuse to accept that they are destroying the environment at a far greater rate than the size of their population justifies. but are ready to accept Shell-sponsored studies reported on commercial TV about "hey, fossil fuels are okay after all!"
2. ignorant people who get stuck when people mention "ice age" or "Europe cooling" and "global warming" in the same paragraph and assume that all the educated scientists somehow missed the "obvious" fact that warming makes things hot not cold!!!!oneoneone
all of you claiming that humans can't possibly effect the world are either very, very stupid or don't want to admit it because you don't want to feel guilty.
>I see no a priori reason why electromagnetic waves can not exist which have wavelengths which are integral fractions of twice the universal scale. >Likewise, I can see no a priori reason why any of the possible standing waves should not have observable consequences.
such a calculation would be meaningless. whereas the space inside an instrument horn is filled with air and is where the sound comes from, the "space" in the model-universe horn is completely unaccessible.
I bought an old portege laptop for 60. crap, but useful since very small and light. after a week I had a bottle of Dr Pepper explode over it (what's the worst that could happen?). if I could recycle the screen it'd be cool.
because why upgrade important systems unnecessarily? often there's nothing to gain, probably just break something. the updates are just bug fixes etc to keep it usable.
a crude comparison would be "why does MS release security patches for 9x after XP was released?"
for a start they refused to use low-k dielectrics.
wait a little while for ATI's new high end card. then look at the relative performance. then look at the relative size of the cooler. understanding will follow.
the whole point of putting more stuff on the motherboard is that it then allows smaller cases, hence the new smaller designs, such as the Shuttle chasis.
the point is NOT that you fill up the extra space with huge heatsinks on graphics cards because the company that made it fucked up the design and needs to overclock to compete.
nice FUD you're spreading. yes the first will be a 12x1, then a very short time later the 16x1 version is out. ATI is going to spank nvidia all over the place.
look at the size of that heatsink. who looks scared?
plus, if this is going to be like the FX then we can expect this new nvidia card to be available to buy some time next year.
yeah, that's how it works in an ideal world. but then we wouldn't need DRM in the first place would we?
consider the recently released PC game Painkiller that contains SafeDisc anti-copy protection. this contains a blacklist. if you have any of the blacklisted hardware/software, the game won't run. the list includes:
-CD-writers -Nero writer software -virtual CD drive software
the net result: people who have legitimately purchased the game cannot run it. they have done absolutely nothing "wrong" in either the legal, ethical or technical meanings of the word. their only hope to use the product they have purchased is to bypass the copy-protection, making them criminals in the USA under the DMCA.
DRM isn't generally as bad as this case, but it is still fundamentaly flawed in that it can only work properly under perfectly controlled circumstances. that means saying goodbye to flexibility, and in some cases usability.
hahahahahahahaha that's great. I bet MS come out with that one day: "Windows is better than linux because you can get all of the functionality of linux (by installing linux), but you can only get Windows by installing Windows"

actually I've been watching it go from "down 11.28%"
;-)
to "down 13.56%" but then back up to "down 12.84%",
and just now "down 12.53%"
so not always going down
I don't know anything about stocks, but "down 11.28%" in a day sounds quite bad ?

your (lack of) understanding doesn't make it so.
exactly, thanks
but to get the Nobel you must answer this question:
Windows 98 style or Windows ME style ?
"do you hear sounds in your head?"
"where else would I hear them?"
such a calculation would be meaningless. whereas the space inside an instrument horn is filled with air and is where the sound comes from, the "space" in the model-universe horn is completely unaccessible.
>Now you can finally figure out the name of that song on the radio that you've been dying to know!
er, been doing that for years in UK with Shazzam Song Recognition thank you.

it is completely unreliable and shouldn't be used for anything important.
because why upgrade important systems unnecessarily? often there's nothing to gain, probably just break something. the updates are just bug fixes etc to keep it usable.

hopefully never
>There is no indication that NVIDIA has decided against using the low-k process with the NV40.
well, they didn't. and I think the size of the heatsink IS an indication.
the nineteenth century phoned, and they want their spelling of "jail" back.
>Why do you think NVIDIA fucked up the design?

it actually takes up 3 slots if you aren't too keen on bending your PCI cards just so they can sit on top of a heatsink.

exactly. takes up 3 fucking slots. it's easy to get better performance if you stick a SLK on it and overclock to hell.

>It successfully read the title of an O'Reilly book!
um, except it seems to have got it wrong, unless the title really is "Programming Embedded Svstems..."
hahahahahahahaha that's great. I bet MS come out with that one day: "Windows is better than linux because you can get all of the functionality of linux (by installing linux), but you can only get Windows by installing Windows"
mirror please?

you first.
