what is linux going to offer over OS X since you get OS X with a Mini anyway?
plus does linux have support for AirTunes? and will it have support for the possible video streaming over AirPort Express that was hinted at in the discussion of iTunes 4.8? I don't know but I don't think so.
>When that portable player doesn't allow anyone else to support them, what else do you suggest?
this is the biggest load of BS ever. please explain yourself. why can't other people support mp3 constant, mp3 variable, AAC, wav etc. ?
the only thing that you can be sure of is that if you have DRM WMV the only people legally using your service are Windows users. seems like yahoo is the one denying support from people.
it's hardly communism to have the government fund research.
if that IS communism, then you better tell your local homeland security officer you've discovered the UK is communist, because I'm being funded to do research.
bollocks. you mean they wouldn't be developed under a capitalist system, and have implicitly assumed that everything is best served by a capitalist system.
how about the example of drugs research being developed by government funding? plus in this case the most harmful problems like AIDS and cancer would be tackled first, not viagra. note also in the case of viagra it is not a cure - pharmaceutical companies under a capitalist system have an interest in avoiding cures since they'd destroy their own market, better to have something people need to take all the time.
that's not a very good argument. another way to phrase it would be "our teachers are incompetent and we'll have to get better ones or train them if we want our pupils to have a proper understanding of the topic".
complaining about these "training costs" is like complaining about having to buy new geography books that don't refer to the USSR and East Germany. quality of education should come before cost. in the case of OSS you get both quality and cost at the same time.
for the 100000th fucking time, NOTHING IS RUN OR INSTALLED AUTOMATICALLY.
unless by "installed automatically" you mean it unzips the zip file, in which case you need need the option set and to click the confirmation box since it contains an executable.
and by "run automatically" you mean open dashboard, open list of widgets, drag widget to dashboard.
for fuck's sake let's not compare this to IE/ActiveX which can allow arbitrary filesystem access just by clicking on a website's scrollbar (did they fix this?)
exactly correct. I've noticed a few little things with Tiger, but have complete confidence that it'll be fixed. I also submit a few bug reports because I believe they will actually make a difference.
conversely, does anyone really think MS could give a shit about the end-users' experience? does anyone bother with the "send report" feature? when has anyone at MS made something better just for the hell of it? for example why, after probably almost a decade, is it still necessary to run disk cleanup for every partition separately. is it really too much work to add an "all drives" option, or am I the only person in the world that thinks this is and appalling UI?
people get pissed off when MS does something wrong because if MS doesn't get it working first time then it usually stays that way or goes downhill.
wrong, it does tell us which is faster - linux. if Windows was faster, why would they need to benchmark against a crippled system?
sure there's a chance I'm wrong, but for me weighing the CHANCE of better performance from Windows against the CERTAINTY that they have lied about their product (or been completely incompetant) is a no-brainer.
and that's not considering costs (remember guys, using linux always requires an old, slow mainframe to be factored into the TOC!)
>Various Dashboard problems (incorrect widgit icons, displaying incorrect widgit after dragging, unnecessarily complicated installation process for new widgits)
the stability and function of the iTunes widget is disappointlingly poor, but complicated installation? wtf? you drag to your widget folder if you want it for yourself, or to the system widget folder if you want it for all users.
in fact the majority of widgets come in a zip and Safari automatically unzips it to the correct folder. so most of my installations consisted of simply choosing to download the widget.
and you can of course run a widget from any folder by double-clicking it.
I don't like it when I finish a game and then there's lots of added-on BS like do the whole thing again with less saves, time, or collecting all the secret things.
a game should either be short but really fun with lots of replay value (e.g. sports games such as pool), or long but with lots of new stuff so it doesn't repeat itself too often.
if you can't put your game into one of these two categories then you need to spend more time on it.
...(talking mainly about FPSs) there's no continuing GAMEPLAY innovation.
in comparison, I playing Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube. I'm 20 hours in and have seen more varied gameplay styles and cool things than all the FPSs I've ever played put together.
it's probably one of the best games ever. I think it might have a little do do with the fact that you sell a console game once. with PC games there's a lot more effort getting it out of the door due to different systems, and you know you can just release an add-on pack 6 months down the line so creating great gameplay first time round isn't so important if you know you can lure people back with your engine eye-candy anyway (Doom 3, I'm looking at you.)
I haven't tried running it on my mac. it runs crap on my PC. and on every PC that doesn't have a graphics card that cost at least 1/3 the price of my complete iBook.
you're the one full of BS. I said people joke about Doom 3 because it is well known for playing badly. you're the one turning it into zealotry.
there is no biscuit. stop inventing the biscuit so you can accuse other people of taking it and feel good about yourself accusing them. it's not big and it's not clever.
I said people joke about Doom 3. they do. I was right, you are wrong. go fuck yourself.
you've answered your own question. buy a separate monitor then.
the iMac is good for people who don't need to be on the cutting edge and want something simple with a small footprint. what advances in emailing, web browsing, word processing etc. do you foresee in the next 4 years that will make a 1.7GHz PPC not useful, especially given that I do all of my scientific research with a 1.2GHz PPC (bit of a cheat since I ssh to clusters but that's not going to change in the next 4 years either)?
apart from a couple of bugs mentioned, that 'review' was just the usual product descriptions.
here's a few things I've noticed. even with these minor issues, OS X is the most perfect thing associated with computers that I've ever known.
1. iTunes widget playlist support very poor 2. list of dashboard widgets only updated when you change page then change back 3. I can't give my bluetooth keyboard/mouse names as long as under Panther 4. when I use spotlight to search for 'dashboard' it lists a PDF that doesn't contain the word dashboard. not sure what's going on there.

only if you want all the songs on the album and don't have to pay any transportation costs
um, how about making the public healthier generates less cost and more tax.
and how about the fact that the government is supposed to work for us, so making our lives better is a good thing.

get a clue, noobie.
half by number of player models maybe, but not half by number people have actually bought.

I agree with the start of your post but had to stop reading when you said "have much more powerful mental paradigms" instead of "understand".

Do you even know the MS-funded FUD TOC report I was referenceing as a joke? Apparently not, so shut the fuck up.

you must be new here, otherwise you'd know Doom 3 is a running joke since it doesn't run well on ANY computer.
didn't you think the limit of 4 players on multiplayer was a bit of a hint?
get a decent OS. I suggest Tiger.
when I open the file it says no occurances of dashboard whereas it usually highlights and links the word. I can't imagine why it'd be in metadata.

>The difference being if you were to bash Windows in a Longhorn thread you would probably get modded up.
that's because Windows does actually suck.
life isn't a politcally correct public wankfest where everyone celebrates how everything and everyone are equal.
and it isn't a history GCSE exam where every historical source has good and bad points.
sometimes a spade needs to just be called a spade, and a shit OS needs to be called a shit OS.

I hope next he prosecutes you for the frustration you caused me by your spelling.
it is if you start counting from zero.
