The actions of OptinRealBig.com have damaged it's reputation. People don't like spam. How does that line from Radiohead's "Just" go, again? Oh, yeah...
You do it to yourself, you do
And that's why it really hurts
You do it to yourself
Hopefully it'll be recognized that this is old. In fact, I believe that there are actual physical switches and buttons that have done this before the rise of Microsoft's empire.
So, to the patent office weenies: PRIOR ART, MOTHAFUCKAS!
Actually, the AP is correct. From this Go glossary:
gote
To play last in a local encounter ; the opposite of sente. Gote loses the initiative.
sente
To have the tempo to choose where to play next ; to have the initiative. The opposite of gote.
When anything related to a 3M product is used in a prank that gets mentioned a lot, they're quick to send product for free. One of the things my brother did during a co-op with them in high school was checking on some of that.
IE prompts a lot of the time, too. It's not the browser to be worried about; usually the problem with these cases lies between the chair and the keyboard.
I've heard through the grapevine that some spyware companies and porn sites are putting together XPIs containing spyware, to start catching Mozilla users like they have IE users in the past. With the growth in use of Moz, plus this book, it's a pretty smart decision on their part. But it does mean that people will now need to be more careful about what they're browsing with Mozilla.
I guess a browser stops being alternative when porn sites start peddling spyware through it. So at least on that, congrats to all us Moz developers, we're on the road to mainstream!
The problem with that is that some spyware hides itself with ActiveX controls and crap that you're asked to install in IE, without being given an EULA to read. When the spyware isn't the control itself, that is.
Though always checking with Ad-Aware and its kin is always good.
Peeking through windows isn't common enough to warrant hunting laws. The prevailance of spyware, however, requires laws more proactive than reactive.
Or some other way of disambiguating all those "free"s scattered throughout his article. That word's as overloaded as a ctor. Perhaps a complementary program to RMS-Lint would be good?
1. Guy tries to change lanes or turn in a curve. 2. Car won't change direction of travel, keeps going straight regardless. 3. Car crashes into divider. 4. Guy sues car company for throwing in this stuff.
I guess that means any program for Windows that's hosted at SF is disqualified since they are dependant on the Windows kernel (as it is), or GDI, or other non-free parts of Windows. Which would be self-destructively stupid.
Get the biggest damn can of spam you can buy (or buy a crate of standard-size spam) and block the door to his house with it.

Wow, I never knew! I thought it's roots were in C++.
IOWs, someone check the article author's brain for unused cells. There's certain to be many.
I doubt he's as cute as Chiyo was.
(If you know not to what I refer, I would advise you to look for Azumanga Daioh.)
There is no tech bubble. It's a bloody sine wave.
I'd think that any McArmy would be more likely to stage a military coup against the board of directors.
It's only a matter of time before corporations start fielding their own militaries, why not start off with Sun?
I could think of worse businesses to do this (not MSFT, there are worse).
If that was just a matter of press and hold, there'd be a lot more satisfied girlfriends out there.
Obviously Microsoft should patent the time machine they use to send all these innovations back in time.
If ones and zeroes were patented, why not just switch everything else to octal using 2 through 9? That'd show 'em!
I knew there was an example I could state of my assumption... Thank you for reminding me of it!

I'd like to note that Chris Pratley has just replied to all your comments.

Would that be freedom as in "freedom is slavery"?
Makes me think of Jennifer Government by Max Barry, but I don't think that's it.

The sad thing is, the people who install that crap are in their right minds. It's that their right minds aren't working right to begin with. :p

Makes sense, no?
