Well, distrowatch is just a distrowatch - non authoritative statistical data. What is more important that sure, core users move away from Ubuntu due of frustration with Unity platform. However, so far what I hear Ubuntu adds new users every day and part of them stays because of Unity. It just shows migration of core geeks, but it was bound to happen sooner or later, as Canonical tried to attract common crowd.
I use GNOME 3 with Gnome Shell, which also moves further with their designs. I know, I know, everyone on Slashdot hates "new way of thinking in design", but I like new mockups for 3.4 and both 3.0/3.2 versions have been a bless so far (if you give it a chance to do it their way).
And it always have been. Still doesn't make my point invalid. And if you can cash out for drugs, you can sure afford a lawyer (in fact you must. Otherwise sooner or later you will be busted).
Maybe then please don't complain that you have traces of illegal drugs in your blood stream?
I can agree that limits of traces should be set and they should be highly scientific. I know that lof of laws against driving under influence has no limits set how big trace should be to be guilty, there's quite visible morality influence in all this. However, if someone is driving under influence - sorry, but you are busted.
Well, problem can be also - quite frequently citizens simply don't know a bit how much things actually cost. Because stuff costs much more than we imagine - to do things right. Sometimes problems can't be fixed by politics, but people wants to see politicians doing something about it - so they throw more money. But as people lack insights of the issues they just think that money disappears but problem still persists.
Exactly how? Tax will be applied to everyone, including traders based on Germany. I think what is more valid problem with this that if not everyone does it, it's not worth it. That's it - US and Eastern Asia should do it too, otherwise everyone will move trade to overseas and that's it.
My feelings is that banks are heaviest lobby what are in this world - they own money we need to keep to run this charade called Capitalism. They will hold governments hostage til they will relent on this.
I really hope that someone will proove me wrong, but this doesn't give any hope: " The Chancellor George Osborne has delayed his return to London from Brussels this lunchtime after a row over proposals for a financial transaction tax at a meeting of European Finance Ministers.
According to sources Mr Osborne asked what was the point in even having a conversation about the financial transaction tax given that it was going to be rejected and then asked if it was âoethe best way to spend our timeâ.
I understand that the Chancellor said no bank would end up paying the tax and the final payer would be pensioners." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-15640299
As said Will Emerson in Margin Call (played briliantly by Paul Bettany): "One thing I can say for sure: they never loose their money".
"we've heard for a while that thorium reactors will be better, but now that someone's actually building one, it turns out to be the wrong kind of thorium reactor."
It's called "Liquid fluoride thorium reactor" and it is quite tested for almost 10 years already in scientist reactors. More, it's designs has been improved more and more. Problem is - big powers are more interested in burning Plutonium and friends (wink wink...nukes...wink wink). That was main reason why Thorium based reactors (and especially this kind of) isn't so interesting for ruling powers. But now it gets into spotlight because people start to worry about meltdowns, radiation and shit and start to ask questions. And people need power. Renewables are first part of the answer. As far as I see this (and understand), LFTR can be second one.
If done right, LFTR won't experience meltdown. Never. That is what theory and scientist experience with their reactors says.
This only makes my determination to never buy anything Apple related stronger. Yes, other corps are "evil" too, sometimes patenting stuff which is too obvious, but this is one shining example of ignorance and greed (USPO also continues to "amaze" me). Apple which I known for openness and will of providing amazing tech has grown into controlling monster of greed. It seems that most IT business success stories in US ends up like that.
I won't even bother to comment about obviousness of this patent. Maybe there was a reason why Jobs died from cancer.
Copyright fees collection agencies. Here, I just said it.
In short, they want huge amount of money from these services. If Netflix can't get a profit in mentioned country/region due of these fees, they won't go there.
Maybe I got this wrong but: a) Google+ were just rolled out from invite only beta b) Google adds stuff to G+ almost every week c) Goole+ for App users are just about to launch d) Company accounts are yet to be announced
And we already decided that it was unsuccessful?
And ohh, by the way, I love real name policy. And don't get me started, if you want to be really anonymous, you can create innocent looking fake name and surename and other details.
BBC article was kinda eye opener how this old, corrupt system works in people minds - as long as you don't have monopoly for something, you wont invest in it. Even if competition will invest and will produce treatements. Even if you will go bancrupt because of such thinking.
This is usual "intellectual property" proponent's argument and have been struck down so many times. So why they return to it? Because it is just how they see it - everything in this world moves because of greed.
No matter how big EU problems are, some things really works by common sense here.
#1 "Most people don't want 'bleeding-edge', they want something that works. If you're pushing something new, then we want something that's, you know, better than what we already have."
How they will know that it is better if they don't even try, because it looks so alien and...where is my desktop pager? People don't like to retrain motor skills, they *don't* like new stuff.
And for your knowledge, in GNOME 3 you launch application just pressing meta/windows key (or throwing key in top left corner, if you're can't live without mouse) and writing first two or tree letters. Sometimes even one. Ohh, and it is much faster than doubleclicking with mouse. But you already knew that, right?
#2 "Gnome 2, yes. Gnome 3 is a tablet UI being pushed onto a desktop mostly used by technical users. It's a disaster even worse than Mozilla's random version upgrades."
I actually use it at my work computer and I never been so productive and fast in my sysadmin life. Go figure. Must be some steorids tabled ui they have made if it works on both - work desktop and home laptop - computers.
#3 Linus claimed that GNOME 2 sucks too, only relenting and going to GNOME after KDE 4 turned into disaster. He is supergeek who likes to customize things. Of course GNOME 3 is not for him. So it doesn't make his subjective desires true for everyone.
I don't have problem that you don't like GNOME 3. Really. I have overgrown my "heh, why they don't use one desktop enviroment" point of view, I accept that other users like it other way and move on with my life. Mostly I care about compatibility, about that we could share information without restrictions - that matters mostly. What kind of desktop style you or I like - don't.
If you wanna try out without waiting for official distribution releases like Ubuntu Linux 11.10 (with apt-get install gnome-shell) and Fedora 16 (full GNOME 3 desktop by default), try Fedora 16 Desktop Live CD nightly builds from here: http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/nightly-composes/ (As currently available alpha is way behind in fixed bugs sense). Drop it on Flash USB and you are set. You can even install it on hard drive if you like what you see. Click on 'Desktop' Spin and use ISO file from Output.
I thought *exactly* the same when I first heard the news in more detail. It really feels like systematic abuse (especially when you take their history into account) and dropping all fault on guy when everything goes down the drain.
Problem is, GNOME Shell doesn't need fixing, GNOME Shell actually works. Unfortunately geeks stubbornness too :)

"Guess what ?"
You get yourself a lawyer, you get repeated test at labs from blood and you are at home at noon/next day/whatever.
Nazi!
Wait, too soon.
Maybe then please don't complain that you have traces of illegal drugs in your blood stream?

Well, then it's simply wrong, very overreaching and kinda useless for main reason - avoid tragic accidents on streets.
Maybe then don't smoke joint?
Well, keywords are "driving *under* influence", right?

Well, you probably heard that mentioned reactor is *not* this one:

About which crimes are you talking about? :)
"Who the fuck comes up with this shit ?"

Yeah, those was very trustworthy statistics and really reliable trend :)

Sceptics will eat it up in no time :)
He'll *will* be missed - just not by you. And probably no one will care about that.

But how you can mismanage such simple thing like creating IT system which keeps such e-records?
