I must agree. While I have always been a strong PC advocate, Apple is looking more and more inviting- especially that Dual G5. Apple has been advertising strongly to push their innovative new products. When is the last time you saw an Intel or M$ commercial (what did happen to those funny Intel guys in cleanroom suits?) The PC world is getting faster, and linux is making huge headway, but not many people seem all that excited about it. Digital video, I-pods, mp3s online, and large LCD screens seem to be the buzz lately. Apple seems to be leading the way on mainstream technology. Dell really is the only PC supplier that I can say has as much PR/Commercials as Apple. Unfortunately Dell seems to be pushing more into server markets than taking market share from Apple.
I know someone will reply with a ton of new PC innovations, but hey.. this is slashdot - just my $0.02.
How does this help? You now require twice as much energy because you have twice as much mass. You save orbiter fuel, but that doesn't really matter because usually the rocket boosters for it break off anyways. You are just using a 747 rather than a rocket booster. I would think this would be MORE expensive.

While reading about Iraqis being trained in Linux, I saw that the United Nations supports Linux and its worldwide expansion. It got me thinking (always a bad thing for a/. reader), why can't we have an international group of policy makers for the computing world? They could be created by the UN and eventually form a separate organization which regulates such things as email, domain names, and spam. Sort of like ICANN, but more law enforcement based.
Maybe its just a pipe dream, but a nice thought anyways.
The goal, according to a recent Pentagon presentation to defense contractors, is to 'track everything that moves.
You know those squirrels, they're dangerous. I mean, we've all seen the Clusters and Geico commercials. They must be terrorists!
While it would be nice to try and surpass Outlook in useability, is that something worth trying at this stage in the game? If you are trying to convince a company to use a new email client, you want to ensure them that they will not have to retrain their employees. With Ximian, they do not have a large enough user base IMHO. If I were them, I would wait until I had a little bit more market share before trying a move like that. The general office worker usually can not deal with huge software changes without retraining. I know many workers who just follow the same list of commands/buttons for checking there email, without knowing what all the commands/buttons do.
For actually finding the web site you want, we need some kind of keyword system...
Isn't this what a search engine is, really? In essence its a phone book of web pages which you can sort by keyword. Google currently seems to have the best algorithm to sort those keywords.
How many Windoze users do you see that have wierd (and ugly) color schemes once they figure out its possible.
In linux you can modify much more. It fits the advanced user's needs as well as the everyday user.

Now that the telemarketers can no longer bug you on the phone, I fear that they will resort to spam. Leeches will always be leeches.
We say goodbye to 2M telemarketers and hello to 2M new spammers.
I recognize one of the nics as someone I know. Its an old college buddy that I can't seem to get ahold of. If you are reading this, RUN! buddy RUN!
To solve the "I pee" crisis, you need a networked toilet. Drinking less coffee might help too.

You do the same thing you do if your car runs out of gas - you push it.
Now imagine seeing that - a line of futuristic looking solar cars with guys running behind it pushing it.

No matter how many "packages" I see. Still love slack-packs the best
Exactly how many of these "packages" do you see in a day?
And of all of them, you like the slacked ones?
18,000 Employees? You guys wouldn't happen to be using Sony Laptops would you? Coincidence... I think not!
