I wonder why Microsoft did not stand up and offer anything remotely as reasonable as this considering their size when they were going to shut down their DRM servers.
Probably because that would have been akin to an admission by Microsoft that their product (WMA with DRM) sucks and should be avoided.
Yahoo has nothing riding on WMA or on music file DRM so they could care less about the impression that this makes for WMA or for DRM in general. After all, they were (one of?) the first major music store trying to convince the major labels to offer non-DRM music files, and the first to offer a song from a major label artist on unprotected MP3 for sale, as an experiment a couple of years ago.
This is pretty much the same thing that a certified personal trainer and fitness competitor told me regarding metabolic rates and calorie burning in aerobic exercise versus weightlifting. She didn't go into the details, but she did say weightlifting burns calories a lot longer than aerobics.
This incorrect information keeps getting repeated in this thread. Yes, they were a rental service, but you could also "buy" individual WMA tracks for 79 cents in addition to renting. "Buying" gave you roughly the same rights as buying them from iTunes, i.e. burn to CD, etc.
I do subscribe to their rental service because I still think it was worth it ($3/month for listening to unlimited music of my choice - low price due to a special deal I received), but I'm sure glad that I never "bought" any of their tracks. Thank $DEITY for Amazon MP3 store.
Dang... does GPFS by any chance stand for "Ginormous Phrigging File System"?
How about the $8/gallon gas price in Europe?

I think the lack of popularity of SUVs in Europe has a lot to do with the high price of gas there, plus some countries there have carbon taxes dependent on the size of the car's engine when you buy the car.

Filmmaking by committee. The problem is that the larger the budget, usually the larger the committee with all the problems that go along with it. That's why so many amazing small to medium budget movies are made, while it's usually rare to see a really good big budget movie.
Worst of all is that from what I have heard the big studios are now mostly run (from inside or outside, i.e. investment firms) by pure business people that have no knack or background in films, they just want a guaranteed profit. You can understand what this leads to.
Not trying to be a grammar nazi, but hilarity tends to ensue when "affect" is mixed with "effect":

1. Feeling or emotion, especially as manifested by facial expression or body language: "The soldiers seen on television had been carefully chosen for blandness of affect" (Norman Mailer).
Ah, I think I see. You're talking about a power supply that's not really designed specifically for PCs, to fit in a PC case? Then I don't know. 94% sounds cool though, as long as it can handle the currents that you need for each voltage, running for long times. Good luck!
I noticed that those intelli panels have UK plugs or something and wondered if there was a US version. There is. It looks like the same people that make the Kill-a-Watt power meter have the same type of power strip here.
I'm not sure I understand what you guys are going on about regarding a power supply wiring harness, but they make power supply units nowadays that have removable individual device cables, so that you only have to have the power cables that you really need inside the PC case.
Depression is definitely not all Serotonin, as evidenced by the fact that there are anti-depressants that don't act on Serotonin at all, but other neuro-transmitters like Dopamine and Norepinephrine (spelling?). A common example is Wellbutrin, which I believe works on Dopamine.
I also want to add to what others have said about not quitting anti-depressants (or any psycho-active medications) cold turkey. Everything I have read about people doing this said that it likely leads to some serious fucked up mental states - although temporary sometimes very extreme. Read some depression and psychiatric medication message boards sometime for more info.
Was the better one of a different brand or model than the others? Or just a fluke that one unit of the same model works much better than all the others? If it is a different brand or model, I'd like to know what it was. Thanks.
I was also curious about this since I had never heard about it. A quick google brought up this article: Few senartors read Iraq NIE report.
It says there's actually no conclusive record of who read or didn't read the report, only what they claim. However, a congressional intelligence staffer said it was certainly less than 10. Edwards is actually in the didn't read list. The interesting thing to note is that according to that list, a much larger proportion of senators who claim to have read the report voted NO on the authorization than their counterparts who probably didn't read it.
Does it really take special security training for engineers to realize that controlling train junctions with TV remote controls (or close enough) might be a bad idea? Where's the whatcouldpossiblygowrong tag when you need it?
This "wipe the hard drive" procedure, is it a standard procedure if OS X doesn't boot, or is there something about this update that royally screws up the whole system beyond a OS reinstall?
I've used OS X a little bit, but never done any system work on it so I'm not an expert. I'm just curious about this because although I look at OS X positively, it sounds scary to me that the fix for a non-boot condition is to wipe the hard drive. Or is this just the easy fix for Joe Sixpack and there's really a more in-depth fix that doesn't involve wiping the drive but is too difficult for the average user?

Yes. Agreed. :) I just saw a lot of people saying that no one was going to be affected because Yahoo only rented music, and picked yours to reply to.

Wrong. You could "buy" the individual tracks too, which gave the rights to burn to CD, etc (similar to iTunes), for 79 cents each track.
There's a scene in the beginning of the movie where a kid uses something very similar to this with his tiny portable computer/communications device.

I would mod your question interesting if I had the points...

Good points, thanks. Cool link on your signature by the way. I'm checking it out...
