Uh, gas is already under $2 in NJ and parts of VA. And that's just where I've been recently.

  2. Ideal for podcasting on Blog Torrent Beta Released · · Score: 2, Interesting

Adam Curry and Dave Winer have already been thinking about ways to better integrate bittorrent into some rss readers and blog tools. It's not hosting your blog itself, but rather your podcast or show which takes up the vast majority of available bandwidth. This allows the 'small guy' that has talent to compete with some of the big broadcasters out there. At least on the 'net.

  3. Re:Cowpoke on Mastering Red Hat Linux 9 · · Score: 1

I am sick and tired of all the FUD around slashdot about this. You can use up2date RIGHT NOW to upgrade from 8 to 9. I remotely upgraded three of my boxes from 7.3 to 9 using ssh and up2date. Now for the big newsflash for all you /. readers. Fedora IS redhat! What is so hard to figure out? Fedore core 1 was just released which is essentially RH 10 if you want to look at it in those terms. And you can again, just use up2date, to upgrade to the newest release. As a matter of fact, up2date now supports apt and yum repositories as well. Debian is fine, I run it on one of my systems, but I prefer RH. And now up2date actually has as much functionality as apt for debian. Sorry for the bit of a rant cowpoke, but you DO have an upgrade path. It's just that far too many people around these parts don't want to listen to the real information.

  4. Nice but..... on Japanese Robot on Diplomatic Tour · · Score: 1

Remember back in the early 80's you had a big robot craze with that one even showing up in one of the rocky movies as a butler? This is a nice technology preview, but people keep expecting robots to suddently be cost-effective for your average family and make life so easy for them. It's just not going to happen anytime soon. Let's start a poll on how long it will take for something like that to happen! 10 years? 20? 30?

  5. Re:whats the point? on Perl Modules as RPM Packages · · Score: 1

Hmm uh well let's see here. Unless you've been hiding under a rock you would know that apt has been ported to support RPMs. So a quick apt-get install perl-foo would grab your perl module PLUS any dependancies. Oh and if you don't like apt, there's also yum now. Which does essentially the same thing. RPM used to be a pain in the rear, but the package system itself has been getting better plus the TOOLS that use the system are as well.
