America Online Keyword sound familiar? Sounds kind of like the same thing. Point is, in my opinion TLD's are a must. They allow the use of subdomains. They allow the use of host names for different servers, still all part of your "top level". I tell you, without some form of domain structure right now I'd be really confused. Its a good idea though.
I'm reading the book Lost Moon By Jim Lovell. In the first few pages he talks about how NASA never makes a big deal out of things until they absolutely have to. Maybe there is a danger and they just don't want to admit it yet.
Yep, definitely thought so too! I even forwarded the email to my boss already, with a lovely little attachment about why FreeBSD and Apache is so much better and more reliable.
Oops;=)
I understand what you're saying, and if that happened, I guess that wouldn't be good. Why would the hardware management (or why is it, because you say its used all the time) be better than software? Reliability?
unsure, I was being a bit sarcastic. I just dont understand why, no matter what the technology is, they wouldn't incorporate more fail safes into the batteries?
How will the 'mothership' orbitting around Mars be able to "revive" the lander? If its batteries are depleted, isn't it missing something: electricity?
I agree with one of the previous posts. With unsuccessful missions like these before, wouldn't they program the lander to do something like...
I'm a big technology advocate, but I also hate all the big brother technology emerging. Even with EZPass, I have it, but it makes me nervous every single time I use it, and I've thought about dropping it.
Not only is big brother a problem, but the latest cell phones are seriously making everything worse. My cell phone broke about 2 weeks ago, and although I was eligible for a brand new phone for free through my provider, I spent about $60 on Ebay purchasing the phone I had (which is about 3 years old). Because its a phone. Its not a personal babysitter, with ring tones, games, etc.
I'm a fan of the simple stuff. I use BSD instead of Windows, not because its free, but because its so much easier for me. GUI's can get confusing. I like simple.
Anyway...
Technology really needs to slow down, otherwise, its going to hurt people's intellegence who abuse it, and invade the personal rights of everyone.
Okay, while this discussion is on the topic of the future of programming, I thought I would ask another question. I use freebsd for everything, although I'm not the best at it. I don't enjoy Microsoft development or programming. Tons of my friends always boast about how they can get things done "so much faster" through Cold Fusion and the use of IIS/Microsoft SQL server, and how, by only knowing C, PHP, Perl, and a few other 'older' languages, I'm definitely going to miss out on a lot when I graduate college. My problem is that they don't worry about security at all, and I constantly see them updating/securing things while I sit back and twiddle my thumbs.
I guess my point is...my preference is to use and develop with UNIX. As a college student, am I making my life harder for the future by not using and fluently understanding windows-based development? Am I destining myself to be one of these "25%" less?
Dont forget to cvsup.... hehe
If you really wanna have fun...
Install 4.0-RELEASE...
cd/usr/ports && make install clean && cvsup && portupgrade -ra.... see you next year./me loves freebsd... it does it all for you.
Okay and what the heck is with these linux lovers? BSD is rock solid. I can't even crash the system if I wanted to (I've tried)...

hehe, I was tired and forget that HTML was allowed in these posts, and it messed up the code :) but you make a good point.
The time is probably kept by one of those binary clocks you see at the store, maybe to show martians we have intellegence?
I understand what you're saying, and if that happened, I guess that wouldn't be good. Why would the hardware management (or why is it, because you say its used all the time) be better than software? Reliability?
That explains a lot then...

Currency Converter would show that at 8.05153 euros, plus the cost of latte...hehe
float threshold = <threshold here>;
if (batteries < threshold) { recharge(); }
there we go...
float threshold = ;
if (batteries better?
I agree with one of the previous posts. With unsuccessful missions like these before, wouldn't they program the lander to do something like...
if (batteries == 0) { recharge(); }
Maybe I'm missing something?

With all due respect, I understand ports. I just didn't understand the joke ;-).

Huh?
hehe sorry, didn't read the previous posting.
It could also mean "everyone's favorite language" sarcastically ... as in "oh man..."
