  3. IT is not fun anymore - Don't do it!!! on Annual IT Salary Survey Finds Dissatisfaction · · Score: 1

I will continue to advise all people I meet to 1. do what ther really really love, 2. don't do anything technical like Engineering, Sci or IT!!! There is a world wide labour glut, and technical work can be performed anywhere without any local restrictions. Trades, doctors and other not easy to offshore jobs are the way to go. Everyone is a potential customer not just business and local laws, licenses etc make offshore competition harder. I think I have one of the best jobs here in Australia - but I now do more boring (paper shuffling) work than I would like. For some reason, everyone else expects IT/engineerinng people to do what they're told adn just make it work, take as little pay as possible - not like HR, law or other depts! Even though IT is the spine of many businesses now and the only reason mega corps can exist. If you don't want to be treated like that - work to change the industry perception - or do something else. 5. Women too smart for engineering!! on The Hidden Engineering Gender Gap · · Score: 1

Women have a lot more options open to them now, and I think a lot of people say - "Why do all that hard work to become an Eng/Sci, when I can do marketing or sales or something else that pays bettr, isn't treated with contempt and is less arduous?" I work in a research lab, the chemistry section has many women, the IT section has many women, the engineering section has very few. The most recent woman engineer to join left for a higher pay in a non engineery position! I actively discourage people from studying engineering and science ( unless it is what they really really want to do) because all the fun (R&D) type work is not done in this country! That leaves the regulations and inspection type jobs left - not all that exciting. Women are just as capable if not moreso than men at engineering - they maybe just taking a more lucrative/rewarding career path

Case for a minimul wage - no minimum wage, artificial labor surplus through distorted market by external forces drops salarries to USA working poor == effective slaves => Who will buy products?? The rich at the top don't buy everything - all economies float on the middle class. It has been proven that slavery is extremely harmful to economy - good for the boss thought! I'll tell you what - I'll be the boss - and you can be my slave!!

  8. Canada is wasting its oppurtunity on French Government Bans Term 'E-Mail' · · Score: 1

I had a great adventure traveling through Canada a couple of years ago. As an Australian I really felt at home in Canada (hey we got the same queen :/ -and you're almost as friendly as we are ;)). But you guys have the perfect chance to be a real duo-culture but instead you waste it. Instead of everyone learning Franch and English ( hey its not like there aren't enough speakers of bother languages to go round all the schools) you whinge. Another language is not like carrying a sac a dos des pierres. Learnt in primary school in a natural way its easy. Here in Australia we have the problem of which language to learn - move highschools and you lose all the effort of your previous language study because your new one teaches a different language! Canadians should be able to enjoy both their English and French cultural inheritance without cringe or prejudice. Stop moving on Canada day and build a bridge and get over it. hey my first post is a rant!
