  1. Re:Even if true on Do Women Write Better Code? · · Score: 1

"Women together generally makes for a bad experience."

I don't believe that's a fair statement to make. Both men and women can have trouble working together. In fact, I work in the same office as many women (roughly 1/3 the office population is female) and most of the time they work together wonderfully.

I do have a personal bias: It seems to me that when women disagree, it's louder and longer than when men disagree. I think that men tend to get angry, but they hold it in more times than not and then gripe about it later to their cohorts. Women are generally more expressive and are more likely to say something up front when they are upset. Hence, you may end up with more "arguments" when women work together.

However, it's my experience that women in the IT workforce are very professional and carry themselves well.

They do enjoy talking amongst themselves more than guys, but that's just a gender difference that any married man is well-acquainted with. As many other people on this post have written, "it's not better, just different".

Grow up man. Write an email to the editors or something. Don't pollute Slashdot comment space with this garbage.

It would be kind of like pointing at a tank, yelling, "boom!!" and hoping for the best.

IF there really are ETs here, they've done a dang good job of hiding from us, and if they have the technology to hide that well, they likely have the technology to wipe us out at a whim.

Go Canada. Maybe this is where all the money for our 'Army' has gone : P

I wish more of these kinds of games (and game systems) were out there. The rush for highest console specs and most detailed games with the best and newest 3D effects has led to boring, cloned, 'I've-played-this-before' games. After a few hours, the novelty of crazy graphics wears off and you tend to put the game down and forget about it. I'm glad at least one of the current game consoles is still coming out with fun games.

This is one reason I am waiting for the Revolution to come out. With the new controller and all, there is a good possibility for a new genre of games to come out, one that is fun, and appeals to a new demographic. 'Hard core' gamer die-hards might bash it, but Nintendo is taking a risk with the Revolution and new controller, and I respect that. I wish some others would take the hint.

Sorry, I had something in my throat there.

My university also has a full-blown co-op program. It operates by contacting businesses across Canada and asking if they would like to have some of their students apply for jobs. Then us students go through a process much like applying for a job in the "real" world. I think this is much better than having some scruffy third year student (like me) call them up and ask if they want to hire him (or her) for a security position.

Also, there is a precedent for security companies hiring Co-op students. If I am not mistaken, The Canadian Security Company (I can't remember their proper name, CSE or something like that) hires some students from my university every study term. The students have to go through a security clearance process that has several requirements such as: you must be a canadian citizen and, criminal record checks and such.

So yeah, the point of all that is to tell you to definitely get in touch with your advisor. I'm sure you have a course advisor (if you don't, get one!). He or she should be able to point you in the right direction.

People are bad enough drivers as it is, don't make them worse by giving them more distractions!

I think even a HUD that is implemented using reflection off the windshield (thus giving the 3D-ish effect) would be distracting and potentially dangerous. The one implanted in the windshield would probably be even more so. It might even block pieces of the road and keep you from noticing that approaching guardrail or little kid or car until it's too late (I know, I know, you could make the HUD transparent, but there are some really BAD drivers out there. It's scary what would happen if you made them use a HUD ). For that reason, I think the whole windshield HUD idea is shaky at best. The screen on the dash like the Cadillac Nightvision system would not have that "blocking" effect.

But hey, what do I know
