This laptop was for my sister she has trouble enough with windows. And she has a Tmob Dash which she needs to synch. There are many crappy little programs she uses which run on windows. Would probably be an option for me but I don't think she would be too happy. Can't wait for that ~199 acer to come out I will be putzing around in Linux on that. I in general love XP I haven't ever had any security problems with it. XP has gotten to the point where you can customize just about anything. Just about the only thing that MS could do to screw itself over was to make vista. I will be keeping XP for a long time.

I don't think you are right. I bought a nice crap of the line dual core HP laptop with Vista Core 550$ added 50$ ram to bring it to 1.5 gigs. Hibernate as well as wifi work wonderfully. Standby is nice. I didn't used to have it so when I close the lid my laptop goes into standby. It is so fast now that I left it that way. Hibernation works alright but it seems to take a MUCH longer time to go into Hibernation. Coming out of hibernation is extremely quick though.

I thought I would hate Vista but it is alright when using the included programs. However a lot of my favorite programs like nero as well as many nice little things I run don't work right. Unless... you buy the upgrade. Same story as with XP but I really liked that upgrade and had no gripes with it whatsoever. I wasn't excited about XP but I loved it after I tried it out. Not really the same with Vista.

Vista is Ok for people who don't game. Maybe your error was in not buying a HP.... If you game like me the performance hit for Vista is wayy to much for me to deal with. There aren't any real great reasons to upgrade to vista you can already skin XP and get Yahoo widgets for free!

  3. I loved XP when it came out, Vista is OK no gaming on Is Windows Vista in Trouble? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I got windows XP the month it came out even though I said I wasn't. In general even though I was running a great 2k box, all the little improvements blew me away and I had to move to XP after I checked it out.
I got Vista for free from MS and after reading gaming reports on the fps loss and it making many games unlplayable I didn't want to touch Vista with a ten foot pole. I installed the vista buisness it on my dual core rig and was not happy with the slowness when moving the windows with all the eye candy. I have a decent geforce 6800, 1 gig of memory and that was noticably pokier than XP even with aero turned off.
I got my sister a great el Cheapo laptop from the Fab HP (I make my own desktops but for non gaming laptops you can't beat HP). It had vista basic with 512 ram. After reading tons of reviews about being horrbly slow looking at the nice specs on the dual core cpu on a 499 laptop I couldn't resist. I figured that I can add ram for that price. Well after removing useless norton, and all the redundant HP software except the fast start media player that normally isn't loaded into memory and the button controls it is actually very speedy. After configuring everything to my liking I found at least the user directory structure a breath of fresh air. The user configuable favorite folders are an unexpectedly nice addition after I was playing around with vista for awhile. The power configuration options are really nice too.
The prgrams HP that were bundled with the laptop were properly configured and dind't constanly ask me for admin rights unlike some programs I loaded on the laptop myself. So once everyone gets on board with vista we will probably have less of the security screens that are the most annoying feature of vista (I know you can turn it off but that would kinda defeat a main reason to go to vista)
Vista will be ok once there are some decent video drivers for it. But if you don't game Vista isn't that bad right now once you fool around with it for awile, and disable the crap manufactures load on it. Even the basic verson isn't that bad at all. I really don't know what MS was thinking with the horrid FPS losses that vista brings though. Oh well they will pry XP from my cold dead hands. I am sure that Halo 2 will definitely be a vista system seller.

  4. Love my Wii can't wait for the quality game deluge on Publishers Scrambling for Wii Titles · · Score: 1

I have been gaming just since the 8 bit Nintendo days. I am probably one of the few that picked up Zelda twilight princess and can't think of any way to play Zelda after trying the Wii version. Other than the length (and the crappy fishing) I can't find any major flaws in Zelda. Unless they were to go back to the isometric overhead perspective. The graphics aren't photorealistic on the Wii but you don't need movie graphics to have a great game. Just great art. I like all the art in the games I have purchase from zelda, raving rabbids, to excite truck. They are cartoony but have a great distinct style that I enjoy. I really like the direction the Wii is going and am happy to wait a bit while every one else catches up to what I have known ever since I saw the first demo for it. I have never bought a system before the first price drop since the 8 bit days. I am really happy with my purchase and know that this is the true next gen. I only buy games for the Wii that generally can only come out on it and can't be done anywhere else. I still like to play a game or two of Wii bowling and would die for some multiplayer.

I can wait for everyone else in the industry to catch up to what Nintendo knew all along, that the Wii is something special. I have plenty of old PS2/ PC games to play. And since I never owned a GC there are a lot of AAA titles I never had access to before.

  5. HardOCP is down now on HardOCP Spends 30 Days With Vista · · Score: 1

I guess El Vole did not like HardOCP talking smack about it and unleashed a Russian bot net on em. That's one way of doing business I guess. XP while not much better than the excellent 2k was a nice change for me when I installed it the first month it came out. I had read all the reviews and decided to put off upgrading to XP. Well that lasted a month and I got a copy from a friend to test out on a secondary drive. Well I was really impressed even though there was the occasional program that didn't work. In the end the next day I got my copy and haven't looked back. I got a free copy of Vista from a post on HardOCP strangely enough for some MS dev thing. Well I really didn't want to bother but I finally installed it on a secondary drive after people kept calling me with odd vista problems. Someone couldn't get on a site that had an invalid security certificate, as there was no way to get rid of the message she said. Well it isn't any better than XP. It is worse in many parts and for games it is horrid. Just look at a review for Supreme Commander on HardOCP. My network card isn't supported so that pretty much stopped me from using it, and I really don't care to get a new network card or whatever to run vista. Vista seemed pretty stable that wasn't one of the problems I had with it, with my although very short time with it. I was really hoping for a speed upgrade with the new OS. Vista seems very pokey going from a XP system to it. And that is with a ton of Yahoo! Widgets and other assorted apps running. Don't get me started on the Speed of the Aero interface with a NVIDIA 6800 card. The thing is that with 3rd party apps you can make your very stable and nimble XP system just like Vista. You can change the way the desktop looks and feels for free with the free theme changer avaiable at neowin.net. Yahoo! Widgets are amazing and even people with macs like the way I have my computer set up. You could do most of these things if you had 2k and were thinking of moving to XP but those addons didn't work as well as these to emulate Vista in XP. They all feel like they were made from the ground up to run smoothly on XP and don't slow anything down. There were a lot of useful features in XP not offered in 2k like the handy system restore that saved me many many times when fooling around were I shouldn't with my system. I really only wish that MS would support XP with DX10, hell I'd pay for that crap and I am the biggest cheapskate. I really do hate thinking of having to move on to vista when games start to only support Vista. MS coming out with Halo2 for vista and shadorun only make me laugh, I am talking about most of the 3rd parties.

Biodiesel derived from grown plants would produce no net carbon. Plants take in CO2 make oxygen store energy as starches. We take their starches make biodiesel. We release some CO2 plant makes oxygen.....and so on. The net is zero. Biodiesel isn't like we take fossil fuels and burn them. Fossil fuels are from carbon deposits built up and stored in the earth for millions of years and we are burning through what has been built up for millions of years in a couple hundred. Isn't that the problem. Biodiesel with better and better fuel economy seems like a real solution to me. Unlike the idiotic disaster that would be unleashed from the greatly increased polution derived from the current inefficient manufacture and distribution of hydrogen that everyone wants. Hydrogen from water has always been 10 years away. Just like we are promised we will have a handle on Iraq in 6 months. Put that together with a efficient plug in car hybrid and there go many pollution problems. Newer Coal burning power plants with the latest pollution reduction equipment are a lot less polluting than your current run of the mill gas car. Biodiesel from plants is currently more expensive than gas but economies of scale and all. Granted all that extra farmland might pose more ecological problems but it is a start. Please explain to me if am wrong I have always wondered why no one likes biodiesel?
