  4. DO NOT BUY TOSHIBA on How To Make Dual Booting A (Bigger) Pain · · Score: -1

If google catches this it may prevent someone from buying their products. Toshiba is bad for Linux Toshiba is aniti-Linux etc. etc. Of course Toshiba can afford to loose 20-30k of sales that this slashdot item will cost them. Soon the OS is going to be built into the hardware anyway and then Linux is banned forever from consumer devices (it will be server only). I'm sure Red Hat knows this since I bet that for a while they've been trying to get someone, anyone, to ship a laptops with RH Linux. It looks like there's no takers - even IBM.

  5. What is wrong with SVN? on RMS Calls On Linux Developers To Replace BitKeeper · · Score: 0

Or CVS .. all the BSD's use CVS. I say SVN and buzilla by gum!!

Of course one could put the kernel on savannah.gnu.org but that would be admitting defeat!

The kernel is licensed under GPL/LGPL but we must not let it fall into the evil hands of the FSF!!

The comments from Bitkeeper (about fudging Bitkeeper to undermine the success of any free alternative) sound very amenable to open source and free software ... or at least to the future non-free version of the Linux kernel.

  6. Redhat doesn't need money on Red Hat To Drop Boxed Retail Distribution · · Score: 1

It's free software: 1) Make free stuff 2) Get giant IPO 3) Get forced by venture capitalists on board to buy other failing ventures (Ardigita now not only disappeared but not marketed or even developped by RH), 4) .... ????? 5) Profit!! Even Microsoft has more product offerings at the OS level than RedHat does. Yup FreeBSD and Debian look like good bets.
