Well I guess I use Java apps a lot. I am forced to use windows for some applications so to feel at home I tend to search for cross platform programs when I need some thing. These tend to be Java based. I then install them in Linux and windows and it all works out. I would say that 3/4th of my every day programs that I use are Java. Though that could just be me.:P
Anyway the only concern I have is a) I already have a Swiss army knife and a pen disk and b) the pen disk I doubt would put up with the beating it would receive on a camp. (Though my pen disk recently survived a trip through the washing machine and dryer so I might revise that above thought later.)
I agree with this, you should ask IBM, RedHat, Novell and others as they will (in an attempt to sell you their product) give you most of the information and support to win over the uppers that you need.
Also the idea of having an in house geeks as support works very well in practice. (Though not in theory, weird ha?:P) It's getting pulled apart up the page but I have seen this in action and it is impressive. If you are a large company get the software you want, employee geeks and get them working on improving the code (remembering to release all the good updates to the community) and have them there on a minutes notice to fix major problems. (If they are stumped get a street geek and pay by the hour.) I doubt you'd get support from ms to fix a bug you find immediately would you?/me looks at value and hl2
Also I'd say you should make the transition slow on your users (people using your network) like switch to Star Office 7 and get all the newbies used to it, then switch the mail client (thunderbird?) and get them used to it and if you are really hardcore switch the OS and pray that they realise they can use it the same as windows with only a few differences. (This method worked for me, then again my network is far smaller than yours.)
Good luck. And remember 1) open source 2) ??? 3) PROFIT - is always right.:D
Jobs I've got to admit you've got a winner here; I'd buy an ipod over that ms "thing" any day. It's an ugly brick to start with; then it's running WINCE (eg not compatible) and well it's just damn ugly and inconvenient. How could you honestly slip that into your pocket like an ipod2 and get the same functionality?
Simple fact is the ipod does what you want it to do, when you want it, without any bloat ware and well just plain looks good.
(*Note that this post never existed to save dignity that would be wiped by supporting mac.)
You're joking right? "Oh dear god they are doing some thing we don't like; SUE THEM!!!"/me Hits speed dial to lawyers
There is no need at all to sue KiSS, all they need to do is send a nice letter to them asking politely if they will comply with the GPL and if applicable give MPlayer some credit. (Though they aren't bound by anything to give open credit, only the basics.)
If that fails you take it to the next step and the step after that and at some point they will comply as one of the last steps you get too will be courts.
There is no need to jump to possibly expensive court cases for no reason at all.
I have one can (375ml) or bottle (aprox 600ml) and a glass of soft drink per day, I personally don't see it as a problem as long as I have it and occasionally a few bottles in a day. Other wise I just get a headache and don't seem to be able to do anything, the reason I keep drinking it is a really like coke and others. (Odd thing is I also drink fanta(sp?) and it delays the headaches yet has no caffeine?)
Atm I don't see a reason to stop... though kidney stones could persuade me.
It's like the people who just cannot understand the concept of open source; you explain to them that people spend time on something and make in free expecting the rest of the community to do the same thus allowing work to be free because every one wins.
Though the only question you get from these sort of people is "but how are they being paid and if they dont why bother?"
This sort of non ability to understand how the internet runs explains this sort of thing.
What it really needs is perks like a nice gui and a decent spell checker, though since this sort of stuff is hard to do I still support it in the hope that it will be implemented soon.

We've been looking at approaching coffee shops in our town to expand on the community wireless network. I'm not sure what the atmosphere over there is in relation to wireless but there are several benefits or it like being cheap to set up, publicity if it has internet (eg email over coffee, access work etc etc) and just generally a service to people. Also see if your local wireless group is interested in helping out as it could provide content while you provide coverage.
Tip jar idea is good, if it's not effective and you are making a loss on the project increase prices to match paying it off over the very long term. (Even 5c pieces add up.)
Note that the Kurds gave the American's the tip of and by "we" I hope you don't just mean America but every one who has fought and died to make this happen?
Why would you want to clone people when you can just have sex? I think you've been watching to many Sci-Fi shows as no one is (afaik) even thinking about mass cloning while on the other hand the benefits to the medical community could be massive.
As far as I know this is a result of not what the White House thinks but Mr Bush's personal (and possibly religiously grounded) opinion on the subject which from what I've read is extremely strong. (For the against.)
I have no problem with this for medical advancement but I agree with controls and the idea that the system (if put in place) could change often to reflect social and technological achievements.

Decent software that doesn't need bug fixing! ...Oh wait, you said Microsoft, my bad.
HEHE, silly NSW person!

I'd say go for it.

And why will they switch from Flash to the MS version (WVG) instead of SVG which has been around for awhile?
8th Affirmative Defense - The GPL violates the U.S. Constitution
HAHAHAHAHA so they are telling me under American law it is against the law to share!?
Mission, but we all know they will fail before they start just like the ads they are trying to mimic. Or maybe this is an attempt at 2) ? to get to 3?
