    a feature I hold dearly but one that I acknowledge not many people care about.

    And I can appreciate that, but keep in mind, anyone can write a compositor with network transparency support or you can use VNC or any other technology to access applications remotely. Or of course, just run X on top of Wayland to support your old apps for now. So it's not like we don't have options. And I can't blame the guys for optimizing for the 95% and leaving the 5% of us to figure out, from several different options, the best way to handle our environment.

    Actually, it's a very smart way to handle supporting legacy applications while you give developers time to transition. Similar systems have been used many many times (Rosetta, WoW, etc)

    There's lots of ways to remotely access a desktop (eg VNC). We don't need the overhead and complexity for everyone when 99% of people never access it remotely.

    "Personal Cloud" is a misnomer, at best.

    Using the wikipedia definition:

    "Cloud computing is the delivery of computing and storage capacity [1] as a service [2] to a community of end-recipients.".

    The whole point of a cloud is to abstract a massive underlying infrastructure to deliver some type of computing service (PaaS, IaaS, SaaS, etc ad naseum) to a large group of users and to be able to scale that infrastructure seamlessly. A "personal cloud" is an oxymoron.

    Would love to see some realistic options if you've got em. Something for the average human that can throw a pre-built linux distro onto an SD card and be off and running. Seriously, not trolling, I've been pining over a raspberry pi forever and I'd love to see some other options.

    It's the same everywhere. Nothing is universally true, but I would say it works out like this:

    80% of young guys (sub-30) are interested in learning new tech, 20% aren't

    80% of guys over 30 have no interest - they have an established family and home life and are done "learning". 20% are still interested.

    Hence the reason so many companies don't purchase SA and just enter into Select Agreements w/o SA, because if you do the numbers you have to upgrade every 2-3 years for it to become cost effective. And each version has less and less compelling reasons to upgrade. I'll skip the upgrade treadmill thanks I have a business to run.

    Great plan! Make sure to extract similar vengeance on:

    Children with fireworks
    Children who intentionally light fires
    Grills
    Campfires
    Throwing out a lit cigarette
    Yard/Trash burning


    etc, etc, etc, you know, the things that typically cause these fires. This was just an accident, it happens. I think what we need to do is take a similar stance that we have on any activity that could lead to a fire, educate people on the dangers and how to handle it. Remember Smokey the Bear? Meet Slashdot's most wanted. I dare you to stare into the face of evil!

    Sure, just make sure you apply the same rule for any accidental fire. Fireworks, campfires, backyard BBQ, lawn burning, etc.

    If there's a case for criminal negligence the DA will file charges. The simple fact of that matter is it was an accident, and could as likely happen playing with fireworks or grilling in your back yard.
