    to be fair, if I was a terrorist, this went exactly as I'd want. I convince some stupid kid to do something horrible. -> Right wing Political Types start frothing at the mouth. -> Target country spends a bajillionty dollars on nothing and winds itself into a fervor. If I'm lucky they'll invade the wrong country and drive more people into my arms. If I'm really lucky, I'll be able to take all those extra people and take over a bunch of territory in the middle east to create a new Islamic Caliphate.

    Do you think asymmetrical warfare is restricted to IEDs? Asymmetrical Politics is a scary scary thing.

    Actually, you are not a racist for noticing that the perpetrator is a muslim. You ARE a racist for infering that all muslims are terrorist because of the action of one person. Any time you're making a broad generalization about an entire people based on the actions of a tiny few or one, yes, you're a racist... and possibly funny, but still racist.

    Hey Canada, It's America,

    We gave our guys all these fancy abilities. Well, they took them and we didn't complain, which I guess is the same thing. Anyway, they haven't actually managed to CATCH anyone yet. Well, they've found some impressionable people with mental issues, chatted with them online, gave them a plan, weapons for the plan, talked them into it, and then instead of just getting them some mental help they "caught them" so they could tell us what a good job they were doing....

    Never mind that I could bring my city to it's knees with $100 and a trip to Home Depot. We're kind of wondering if there are any actual real Terrorists out there at all. They're probably bogarting all the Ebola. I mean, we've got deranged people with guns but those are impossible to find beforehand and so far we just clean up after them and use them to pass new laws.

    I regularly send papers to my lawyer. I regularly send papers to a LOT of people, and those papers are protected. My phone regularly broadcasts to my lawyer. I regularly broadcast stuff to a LOT of people, and those broadcasts SHOULD be protected, but aren't.

    Luckily, yes, the courts made the right decision for once. Somehow this happened in Florida of all places. Who knew?

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

    I consider my phone to be "papers and effects" pretty heavily. Everyone does. That this was even a question is pretty annoying.

    So, let me get this straight.... the only thing that used to stop the issues with Capitalism was the government stepping in, but it's socialist if the government stops companies now so we can't do that... That's some fine logic there. :D

    Are you sure it's a socialist police state? You know you can have capitalist police states. They call those fascist. You should look up that word. It's important. Fascism views political violence, war, and imperialism as a means to achieve national rejuvenation" from Wikipedia.

    You need to read more history. You specifically need to read more history about the robber barons and the crash of '29. It might start looking familiar to you.... huge monopolies, too big to fail, no regulation.... You might also look up the Glas-Steagal act and see that we didn't have any large financial problems until it was repealed.

    You might also connect government corruption with WHO is paying them, and start to wonder why all those capitalists paying your government are aiming for a socialist state that would put them out of business. Hint: They're Not.

I need them buying crap they don't need, on credit, so I get richer...

    Yay! Be afraid! Look, for any virus to infect you have to have a decent viral payload and a path of infection. I don't give a !@#$ if they found Ebola can live in blood for several days. Don't touch any !@#$ing blood!

    The main issue in Africa is a lack of hospitals and infrastructure. People stay home. They bleed out of their everything all over the sheets. Their family is touching them while they do it, because they care about the victims. They touch the sheets to wash them... in their drinking water with no gloves. It's not a surprise they're having a problem. It's not due to Ebola being super contagious. It's because they're doing it all wrong.

    If you're worried about Ebola, don't touch any bodily fluids and wash your hands frequently. Try to avoid getting any cuts on your hands. And don't rub your !@#$ eyes. Problem solved. If you're super worried, stock up on rubber gloves and rubbing alcohol. Perhaps some goggles if you're just stupid paranoid.

    But seriously, why do you people NEED to have a world ending emergency? It's like you're looking forward to a Mad Max scenario. It's like you NEED to have something to be afraid of. Ah! The stock market is crashing! Ah! Obama's not a US citizen! Ah! The value of the dollar is going into hyperinflation! Ah! Ebola! Ah! Government takeover! Benghazi!!!!

    There are real things to be worried about you know....

    Ebola and HIV spread through pretty much the exact same pathways: blood, semen, etc. Of course, generally, the Ebola victims are bleeding through their eyeballs, so there's that...

    As for the incubation period, they're not contagious until they're showing symptoms. Ebola is not really that contagious. Don't lick anyone. If someone is bleeding out of their eyeballs, don't touch the blood. If you do, don't rub your eyes. If someone in their incubation period walks through a mall, it's pretty safe. It's when they run a fever and start vomiting all over the floor that you've got a problem.

    Don't play in anyone's vomit either....

    I don't know where we'd find a system that uses both private and public health insurance. Oh wait. There's Canada. And pretty much the entire rest of the developed world. You know you can still buy private health insurance all over the place, right?

    Private insurance doesn't want to treat every headache and fever that comes in. This is the sort of thing where a public Single Payer insurance system (note, insurance, not the hospital itself) would be a good thing. But, you know, socialism.....

    This story is a legitimate chance for anti-GWers to crow a little bit. (sort of). We have something here, by a reputable source (NASA) that has revealed a tough question. We thought the deep ocean was warming. It turns out it isn't. We were using that as a sink for the heat to explain the recent pause in the global warming. Shit... This makes us search for some answers.

    This is science working. It's also NASA saying "hey, wait a minute", which You People always seem to say never happens. It's also STILL saying that the oceans are warming, just not the deep oceans. It also says the deep oceans are REALLY hard to measure, so perhaps it's wrong. We'll see.

    So, yeah, Anti-GWers, this was your moment to shine. This was your moment to crow. Instead CppDeveloper decided to make an ignorant comment about CO2 being plant food. Yes. We knew that. Thanks. You're about 20 years behind on your Stupid Anti-GWing statements. We know CO2 is plant food. We know plants absorb it. That's kind of the point of oil. It's a nicely balanced system and we have been A. releasing millions of years of Stored In Plants CO2 inside 200 years and B. cutting down rain forest for beef farms at the same time. We've hashed out your stupid statement years ago. You need to update...

    I already feel warm and fuzzy. This isn't about me feeling good about my recycling habits so I can narcicistically say I care and my neighbor doesn't. This is about me wanting to hand a world to my kids that isn't fucked over.

    I'm not saying to not use the energy. Burn those fossil fules... maybe just capture the damn carbon? We had a giant SMOG problem, then we regulated and captured those emissions, and smog got a lot better. We have the tech. Just use it.... shit... If the price of gas goes up by a dollar but we don't fuck the world, I'm OK with that...

    argh.... Just... what do you think HAPPENS when you release a few million years of stored up carbon in a measly few hundred years as CO2. Just... think about it. It's not that hard... Fossil fuels are quite literally millions of years of stored CO2 from dead plants.... And you release it in this HUGE surge in just 200 years... We KNOW CO2 is a greenhouse gas. We know it prevents us from radiating heat back out into space. This is not disputed..

    I need to stop arguing about this. I know the people that argue against global warming are morons or have an agenda... Why do I do this to myself?

    I'm pretty sure it was you that diverged from reality... The earth is getting warmer dude... The data is easy to see. It's really easy to see. You can look up satellite pics of ice coverage. A simple Wolfram Alpha search will tell you global mean temperatures, and show you the data sources so you can investigate them better.

    How do you people keep insisting nothing is going on? The excuses keep changing. "It's not warming. Ok, it is, but it's solar! Ok, it's not solar, but it's not man made.... It's natural cycles! Ok, it's it's moving too fast for natural cycles, but it paused for the last few years! It's warmer, but it stopped, so it's not warming! Ok, so yeah, Arctic sea ice is dwindling, but antarctic is growing! Ok, sure, arctic is sea ice and antarctic is land ice, but.... It's scientists, just making a grab for lucrative grab for government money! Ok, so that money is shit and it's pretty obvious all the real money is in private industry, but..."

    On and on you people go, changing your story. Diverging from reality, if you will.....

    furthermore, it's quite obvious that several industries just don't want a drop in profits that would come with regulation. It's quite obvious they've spent a TON of money to muddy the conversation. My question is, in 30 years when we can look back on this, will you !@#$holes fess up that you were wrong the whole time? Will you admit that you all were duped and spent decades ignoring your betters? Will you finally shut up?

    I go hiking a lot. I check the weather forecast. it's usually right. I wouldn't trust it 10 days out, except as a vague guidline, but I'd trust it three days out. I do, regularly. I live in Oregon. It's important to have your raincoat here....

    So no, weather models are NOT a joke. They're incredibly accurate for just about every use case I've ever used them for. The absolute joke must be you...

    Mars does not have a molten iron core, and hence doesn't have the cool magnetic field that earth does. That magnetic field does a LOT to protect our atmosphere from getting stripped off, not to mention protecting us from radiation.

    Screw Mars. Spend all that money on making it nice HERE. We have the means. We have the tech. We could have a star trek utopia right here... Free education, opportunity through small businesses, cheap housing, plentiful energy. We could have all that right here if we just put a smidge of effort into it.

    Take all that money and just pay off 5% of the population's houses. Those people, now freed from having to grind on the treadmill for their housing, could start small businesses... circulating money in the economy. It doesn't need to be much. Start a taco truck... Employ a few people... We'd have zero unemployment and a lot more happiness. The economic repercussions would be staggering.

    A lot of human suffering is because a few assholes ruin it for the rest of us. How about we fix THAT? Screw mars...
