    I don't know how closely you follow OTN, but they've been gradually putting out more "Oracle on SUSE" articles. And they fully support Oracle/SUSE installs. It only makes sense to do so.

    On a personal note, I use SUSE as my desktop, and have now transitioned into an Oracle DBA role at work (jury's still out on that :-)). But I continue to use Oracle on both RH and SUSE on the server side. I for one, amd glad they support more than one distro.

    Cripes. I am a graduate student at an Ivy league institution. I've watched equally awkard, and equally graceful American citizens, immigants, and foreign nationals. Please don't call me a traitor for taking some pride in my country. I don't have to agree with George Bush to believe that despite American citizenship, I can be cultured, well educated, and well mannered.

    Fair enough. But then don't go spouting off how you went to an Ivy league school. It completely negates you claiming to be cultured and well educated by having to tell us so.

    Not surprising that the best line in episode 5 (second in the original), when Leia says "I love you" and Solo says "I know" was not actually in the script. Harrison made it up on the spot. (He seems to do a lot of that, no?)

    Yes, although I am entitled to support, since we pay dearly for it. You're being a bit disingenuous by saying there's not online resources. For just about any popular product you'll find plenty of webpages dedicated to it. You'll also most likely find an active usenet newsgroup or two. In the case of Oracle, you've got OTN, which is quite comprehensive. There are others out there. They're not all that hard to find.

    Uh-huh. You must not keep up on VoIP. Vonage, as well as a few other VoIP providers, do provide this for a fee, much like cell phone companies do.

    Those providers that still don't provide this in the US will be required to within 120 days.

    And if you've been following Skype at all, you know that they will probably wiggle out of that requirement by saying they're not really a telephone replacement. They've already done this in Norway. Norway's trying to do the same thing the US is. Regardless, look at what Skype offers and what pretty much any other VoIP company offers their customers. I don't think they're really up for the competition. Skye's great, but it's just voice chat when you compare it to what most VoIP companies offer.

    Actually, if you purchase a Linux distro, such as RedHat or SUSE, you're entitled to support. I haven't had any support experience with either company, but I do know you're entitled to it. Contrast that with a phone call to MS - how much does that cost these days?

    Even if you don't purchase either distribution, both companies have free-to-use knowledge bases that rival Microsofts. Really. Try going through them sometime.

    The popularity myth works for desktop apps. Apache doesn't go out to the web clicking willy-nilly on ad infested websites, only to place spyware in the registry. That s user-initiated. there's a big difference between a user-initiated action and a server process.

    I doubt there will be a left-handed model. Pretty much every PDA or device like this one has buttons on the left side, which I can't use because I'm holding the device with my right hand because I need to write on it with my left hand.

    Not trying to state the expensive-but-obvious alternative, but have you considered a Zaurus c1000/c3000 import? They both have all hte buttons on the right side and below the keyboard. Folded, it looks to be about the same size too.

    It is expensive, though. that said, I love mine and have gotten every penny out of it with daily use.

    I use a password app on my PDA (a Zaurus), but most people have cell phones. There must be a little java applet around that does the same thing. If not, there's a great opportunity there, I would think.

    The myth that US software developers are so much better than their Indian counterparts is just crap. And the idea that Dell support was any good when it was on shore is just plain baloney.

    You're mixing two completely different arguments here. Development and support are entirely different beasts.

    But if we're going to talk support, let's talk support:

    Fact of the matter is that support, once moved away, has gone downhill, not just for Dell, but for other companies as well. Probably my worst support experiences have come from SBC, who outsources their support to India. Level one support from them is running down a script and checklist. There is absolutely NO independent thinking from their support.

    Thank God for places like dslreports.com for their Tracy, CA-based help through the forum.

    If you're not concerned with playback on the PSP, but want to play it on any other mp4 system, you actually can rename it to anything you desire, such as This_First_Epsisode_Of_Systm.mp4, and it will play. I do this all the time with 24 episodes and play them back on my Zaurus.

    If you know anything about him (and I don't know much), you'll know that he never wanted to be a TV personality. According to him, all he really wanted to do at the old Tech TV was do Dark Tips type stuff.

    It's not the video format that's messing you up. It's the naming format. Just change the name to whatever.mp4 and you should be able to play it on any other portable, etc.

    Definitely one of the better podcasts out there. Each week it gets a little more polished. Hopefully they'll deal with the Skype issue and find something to replace it. When it works, it works, but the last couple of episodes it's not worked well for them.

    if you buy 1000 $499 colomachines , and 50 of them are failing at any given time, it becomes very time consuming and tedious to keep the cluster going.
    actually, the same monitoring and swapout/repair of hardware is the same whether it's cheap hardware or expensive hardware. I've had a fair bit of hardware failures on an IBM cluster. Once monitoring catches it and notifies me, I get the new hardware in place and use xcat and kickstart to push everything back out to the replaced node(s). The most time consuming part is waiting for the hardware to arrive. Xcat/kickstart provide a decent toolset to automate everything after the hardware arrives.

    Granted, I don't begrudge you for trying to drum up Apple business in a Linux thread, but - and I supsect I'm not alone in thinking this - you're probably driving away some potential business using the aformentioned tactic.

    Someone else mentioned it in an earlier thread, but both IBM and Oracle are postioning their products for primarily Linux (RH or SUSE). If you go to any of their latest product classes, everything is now done on Linux. All documentation is now geared toward a Linux install.

    People taking these classes are naturally going to go back to their businesses and install on what they learned - Linux. They do, after all, have instructions from class that are tailored to Linux/Oracle or DB2, not Win2003/Oracle or DB2.

    If you are only running MS products, such as SQL Server, Exchange, etc. then yes, you'll likely only have MS servers in your datacenter.

    What's stopping you now? Honestly, I don't consider myself a very "smart" person, but I do (honestly) believe that I'm capable of doing anything I desire. Education doesn't stop at college. Maybe by the time you hit forty you'll realize there are things you still want to learn and will be able to apply in your daily life.

    It took me a long time to realize that I'm still capable of learning.

    Look, you guys hyping google is all well and good - they do, after all provide some really nice things, but this is hardly groundbreaking. Can you add ANY RSS feed? No. Not yet. That may very wel change, but right now, there are other options that will allow you to add any RSS feed you desire.
