>> some parts of the world what we consider a normal workload is a luxury. (The 40 hour workweek...and in France the normal work week is usually 35 hours with 5 or 6 weeks paid vacation a year. I guess the US is still a developing country too:-)
Why do you need to do this via a VM? Isn't this exactly how real multi-user systems (i.e. not windows) work and have been doing for years? ( LDAP etc?).
>> I believe Colbert's straight-talking sensibilities have earned him far more than just a bridge in whatever continent Hungaria is in.
Its ironic how Americans think the US is the centre of the universe and are totally ignorant about the rest of the world( Its Hungary not Hungaria ) other than assuimng they must also get US TV.
Everyone else in the world ( yes there are a few of us and we do have better tv than you ) knows where Hungary is but doesn't know or care who the hell Steven Colbert is....and you all still wonder why people want to bomb the US.
What incredibly sensible move by Intel and what a great way to differentiate themselves from the competition.
I hope this puts pressure on nVidia and AMD/ATI to follow suit. Although they probably don't want each other seeing how many of their respective patents have been violated or that their code is full of benchmark-enhancing hacks.
To totally alleviate CPU usage and ethernet bottlenecks I advise using RS-232 instead. The other benefits are that you can connect to that new-fangled Compuserve BBS service if you also have an acoustic coupler. You can also save on cabling costs by using damp string.
It seems crazy to be investing more than $1k in new videocards at this point in time, as nothing out currently is DirectX 10 (full windows vista) compatable. The new nVidia cards that are will be out in less than a month or so (if you believe the press).
>> the universe is... about 180 billion light-years wide.
I always understood that the universe was thought to be infinite. Does this mean the universe has been proven to have an edge?
I know these may be dumb questions but I just can't get my head around them...
Whats beyond the edge? What happens if you go beyond the edge? do you wrap around to the other side of the universe like an old computer game? Do you extend the universe (i.e. push the edge away) just by existing near it so you can never actually cross it?
I know they're just looking for another revenue stream, but its great to see big companies (even inadvertently) fighting the system on behalf of individuals rights.
...and I'm sure it didn't enter the music industry's mind to charge way more for the same music on DVD than on CD. When CD's first came out, their prices were about triple compared to the same album on record or cassette (at least in the UK).
They'll probably do the same again with the same excuses: that the sound quality is better and it costs more to make DVD's than CDs in volume (which is bullshit. They'll use the (say)10 cents per item extra cost to them to justify a sales price of an extra significant number of bucks).
Yep. I'll say it again: Companies are pushing human rights back into the dark ages. Even in the US.

Holy crap. Apple consider 60 hours a week normal?
Companies are pushing the human rights back into the dark ages. Where will it end?

So they're not actually totally dropping it then... just putting it off until no-one else is looking.

Yep, and I'm a comedian making fun of the left-wing idiot-European attitude. Its a joke. Laugh. Gotcha back.

wouldn't just assume that PC == windows OS.

Its easy, just install Linux instead. Seriously.

Yeah I have a serious compatability issue between my wife and new PC hardware. She's AGP (a grouchy person).

What actually is this useful for again?
>> Former NSA employees fear that a power outage at Fort Meade would have worse consequences than the 2000 "information overload" related outage.
Yeah so the NSA wouldn't be able to scan our emails or filter all our phone calls for key words for a while. Tragic.
Nothing will drive people to Linux faster than having Windows keep popping up advertising messages.
Good job Microsoft! Now you're finally contributing to the Open Source movement.

why can't they stop stuffing everyone's mailboxes with tons of advertising that no-one reads.
