Heh hell yeah... If I was Torrentspy I'd have found some way to get the FBI to do a surprise raid on the MPAA, involving "kick down the door" entry and confiscation of all their computers and files as evidence.
Stop whining.. what you're saying is: Oh dear, this software is totally free but not being professionally distributed.
There's nothing wrong with expecting users to get the very latest development version of software from cvs. It's not exactly hard to type a cvs get command uness you're scared of a command line because you only know how to drive a muose. In which case, what are you doing with Linux anyway?
My advice to you: Downgrade back to Windows.
You won't even be able to get a few-days old version of anything from Microsoft, especially for free, but at least you won't have those nasty command lines.
>> Are americans already whipped into shape that badly?
Yes. Europeans have far more freedom of speech and other liberties than Americans. There's far more religious brainwashing and censorship of the news in the US. Phone tapping of millions of citizens (like Bush just allowed) would just not be allowed to happen. Go live in Europe for a while then come back to the US and the difference very obvious.
Please teach them the difference between "their" and "they're".
I'm a engineer/manager and can't tell you how many resumes I see and reject because they lack even basic good grammar. In an environment where technical documentation needs to be concice and accurate this is critical.
>> That is, if you can evalutate MS on technical merits and not knee-jerk "Linux r00ls M$ SuX0rs!!!" criteria.
MS-originated technical merits? wow thats a slim book. And regardless of how you choose to spin it... Linux (and Opensource in general) IS always better in price and frequently better in quality than anything MS has originated.
> you don't need to do homework or deal with sales people. You just grab the item and your in and out in less then 5 minutes
very true(except that's not how to spell you're). In fact I find that after doing net research on your product, if you then talk with the sales-droi.. err.. people.. you usually find they don't know what they're talking about at all.
>>the appeal of SaaS isn't going to go away.'" Who is this moron talking about? The only people this "appeals to" are companies like Microsoft because they see $$$ even at the cost of usability. The average user doesn't want it in the slightest. I din't want to have: a) my files on someone else's server b) be on the internet c) pay charges
If you are an AOL customer, please can you explain why you use them? I don't get it... They've always been just an ISP with an annoying and redundant layer between users and the internet. They just get in the way and don't seem to bring any value to anyone with half a clue about the internet and associated freely available tools.
Back in the 80's, the public weren't generally very computer-savvy so AOL got away with it, but surely in these days of widely available broadband, ubiquitous email & web access, they are just a dinosaur now? Why do so many still give AOL credability and money?
I am a very experienced C++/Linux software developer and have recently been on the job market.
My wife already works from home and I decided to try and also find a telecommuting position, in order to avoid the daily commute and high property prices associated with having to live reasonably close to most high-tech employers offices.
During 3 months of looking at thousands of otherwise eligible positions on monster.com, and also speaking with many agents, I didn't find a single position that was open to telecommuting.
It seems crazy to me that many employers would rather pay all the real-estate/heating/lighting/network/phone costs for an on-site employee, than allow them work in a home environment. Apart from anything else, I am far more productive when working from home just because of the lack of constant interruptions you get in an office.
At some point some agile forward-thinking company is going to realise the benefits of allowing the majority of their staff to telecommute, and they are going to make massive profits because of the reduction in costs and increase in productivity. Then all the other companies will have to get on board or die... but until then... oh well...
There needs to be more accountability/traceability in order to register a domain. You should have to prove ID etc. so that if your domain is clearly a botmaster then the authorities can find you in person easily and nail your ass.
This is the latest fad, thanks to George W. The job of any government is to enact that countries law. That is all. They should leave their leader's personal notion of morality out of their business.
The use of the phrase "early adopters" seems to be an attempt to shift the blame/responsibility for faulty products onto the consumer.
These are products already released to the general market as fully working, not private betas sold under appropriate terms.
As such there should be laws in place to ensure manufacturers are legally obliged to step-up and deal with the problems to the satisfaction of the consumer.
>> The US is spending billions BUYING JSFs from the UK, why would the UK get the software for free?
Umm nope. This is about the JSF's that the UK is buying from the US. They want the software source too as a part of the pakage being sold to them (i.e. NOT for free), otherwise they won't buy them.
It's reasonable for any country to expect to have full visibility of the workings of its own defense systems.

CE Reatime. LOL.... Whatever. I guess Microsoft must have patented the definition of realtime or something.

No you're absolutey correct.
WB are blatantly lying in order to con non-techie types into using their service.

Why? Perhaps they all heard about Linux.

Its just a shame they haven't brought principles to their vast wealth.

The only reason I was considering Vista is because Microsoft have made sure DirectX10 won't run on XP.
Now if I also can't dual-boot then that's the last straw to drive me to a linux-only system.
And before anyone suggests it, no I don't want to be running Linux under a Microsoft VM.

The thought of clogging-up any elegant OS with the awful Microsoft API just makes me shudder.
Thaks pla.
Surprisingly even in this enlightened forum, it seems evident that some moderators think "not supporting the status quo" == troll.

Pirated versions of Windows will run faster than legitimate versions then.

That is so NOT true.
I am a very experienced C++/Linux software developer and have recently been on the job market.

and...
We spend a long time looking at how Linux and Windows interoperate.... And make sure it cant.

Those dorks that have the bass/volume so pumped-up in their car that you can hear it half a block away must have made themeselves almost totally deaf.
Isn't it strange how they all listen to the same type of (c)rap music?
