>> Christianity is being outlawed there, under the cloud of 'hate crime legislation.'
Damn right. Someone woke up and realised that the way christianity is taught in the south of US is as inciteful and fundamentalist as the muslim terrorists.
The problem with the current system is that they can repeatedly reapply without making any changes until it finally gets passed (often because everyone is fed up with talking about it).
There needs to be a "No means No" mechanism which prevents continual repeating retries.
(and therefore probably Gates too) regularly give money to charity for the tax benefits. Its a net win for them otherwise they wouldn't do it.
I'd be more impressed if he actually did something solid towards the environment, like promoting hydrogen vehicles, or saving the rainforest, than just helping to grow more people which make the problem worse.
how in the USA is management is considered more important (i.e. a promotion) than an engineer.
Engineering and management are two totally different skillsets. Its like taking a good carpenter and 'promoting' him into bricklaying.
I'm a good engineer, got promoted into management then moved myself back to being an engineer, and am more happy than ever. I suggest you should do the same.
If you decide to stay in management, here's what you need to do. Change the way you think about being a boss: start to think of yourself as a facilitator, not a controller. Be there to provide the resources to the engineers that they can't get for themselves. Stuff like involving them with (or at least informing them of) management decisions is a good.
Stop micromanaging. Give them deadlines then trust them to deliver on time. You can ask for progress updates every now and again to check there's not a problem coming up, but don't tell them how to do their job unless they ask you for help.
Most of all, remember when you were an engineer and what you wished your boss would be more like.
>> if I was able to run AmigaOS on a PC or Mac, even in a slow emulation mode, or on a cheaper native machine, I'd consider porting my software. Especially if there's a POSIX layer to work with.
You can, there's several good amiga emulators out there. A slow PC running an Amiga emulator still gives you a MUCH faster Amiga than the original ( 10+ yrs old) hardware.
I loved the Amiga back in the day. I even did most of the work for my CS degree on an A1500.
But now I have a Linux PC that can do much more than my Amiga could, and can run any of several good Amiga emulators out there for when I get all nostalgic.
So unfortunately I can't think of a single reason why I (or any other PC owner) would want to buy new Amiga hardware today, especially as it would mean buying new software all over again.
What (if any) features does this new hardware have that a PC doesn't, and what market are they aiming at?
I think you've answered your own question with: >> 'I can't recall where..' If it were as successful a model it would result in a successful society that would come to mind easily.
I took Psychology as a prt of my CS degree in the UK. Thankfully, not all parts of the world are so blinded by PC morality to deny actual experimental results.
We were taught, and validated by experimentation, that there are indeed differences between women and men. It turns out that women are better communicators than men, and and men have better spatial awareness (i.e. ability to model spatial problems in their mind).
I'd guess mental modeling of spatial problems has a lot of similarity with mental modeling of math problems.
I also find it interesting that these skills coincide with the traditional gender roles of man= hunter, woman=cavewife, that have persisted for hundreds of thousands of years compared to the relatively recent social equalisation of women.
At higher framrates you're less likely to miss something fast-moving (e.g. a rocket heading straight at you), as its in more frames therefore you're more able to resolve its motion.
You're obviously not an FPS gamer (or at least a good one) otherwise you'd be very aware of this effect.
DVI is limited to 60 frames per second, which means you get your butt handed to you on a plate by most online PC gamers using older analog monitors.
I can't believe the inventors of DVI were so short-sighted to believe 60fps max was acceptable for all uses. Whats worse is that the 'new' HDMI interface has the same problem.
Needs quicktime.
I wish web designers wouldn't just assume that everyome in the world runs winblows and Internet Exploder.
THis is crazy.
You'd pay extra to get sci-fi channel, then pay again to buy the programs for it?
Can I sell you my house?
The EM64T extension is equivalant to AMD64.
I'd be suprised if these didn't have it, as it seems to be standard on all new Pentium 4's now.
You run windows? ewwww.... you deserve every limitation you've paid for.
It will be interesting to see how much this baby will cost.
It will also be interesting to see what clock sped it runs at, and how much heat it throws out.
I'd rather have forking Linux than be totally forked by Microsoft.

What part of 'Which LINUX" are you having trouble with?

He's got so much money he can still have whatever he wants and still give 3/4 billion away. Its not like he's going to miss it.

Yes its standard for all non-US citizens coming into the US, even on a short vacation or business trip. It was that way even before 9/11 too.
MAME has already been ported to a camera!

Wow that was forward-looking. having a website 15 years before TCP/IP was invented is waaay coool.

Now you know why I hate the strip lighting at work.

Yes LCD lag/ghosting is another reason why most top twitch-gamers still use CRT displays.

actually the whole notion of fps seems so yesterday. I mean Why does digital stuff need to emulate a scanning electron beam at all?
Why can't it just use lists of deltas (pixels that have changed since the last frame)?
that it is based on DVI.

all those ads (like this one that say) "connects to any computer" and then goes on to talk about microsoft-specific technology.
Ahh yes.. I'll buy one for my Linux box and my commodore 64 then.
