  1. Hmm... writers name..... on Thirty Years in Computing · · Score: 1

    Is it a coincidence???
Im assuming yes as in my experience he seems to crave recognition...... unfortunatly people give him it.
Before anyone has a go at me, I know he is at very least reasonably intelligent, but in my opinion he does not deserve the level of admiration he recieves

  2. Re:Does he get paid for this? on Thirty Years in Computing · · Score: 1

Fortunatly regardless of Jacob Neilson's almost godlike status in the realms of IT, I have heard very little praise for him from the Computing side of matters. My only conclusion is that to most real engineers (ie those that dont need to take a 3 week training course in Word) his ideas are plain common sense and therefore he himself is almost completely unremarkable

  3. Qinetiq aren't government backed as such on Biometric ID Cards Ready For Trial In UK · · Score: 1

Qinetiq are a research company that used to be a branch of the MoD they became a public/private partnership a number of years ago, so some of their funding is government sourced but not all. They mainly do R&D related to MoD contracts as they still have strong business ties. I only know this due to being told to apply to them for my industrial placement year of university, I purposefully screwed that one up, I didnt want to travel approx 300 miles to work on sonar systems (sonar itself is fairly cool, but i dont have the best stomach in the world for extended 'at sea' tests)

Im just 20 now, and I'm appalled too, yes I know not everyone can be good at everything but I know how to write and what words mean, and I really dislike social language skills (blah blah blah, yeah i know, standard arguments about how thats dummed into us by our enviroment, I personnally view mathematics as logic language skills, just as easy to learn and use) , so I think its reasonable to expect that kids know the basics, because the people saying "oh we have calculators now..." don't realise that if you don't know the basics you can't do the more advanced topics which calculators allow us to do with much less effort!!

If this is the student competition I nearly entered, then part of the T&Cs was that Microsoft, recieved all intellectual property rights to all software entered

  6. Re:I have an older yepp 32 player on Samsung Yepp YP-55V Review · · Score: 1

got to agree with him, got a 64 MB mp3 player with SM slot (will take 64s havent tried 128s (yet)), its great and it cost me 40 quid (English (not british dammit) pound about $60) a year ago brand new and i disagree on the availability of memory 32MBs are plentiful from my family company's supplier but they havent had 64s or 128s in stock for weeks so i have quite a few mem cards now, a 32 MB card can hold a full album at 128kbps

  7. Another possibility...... on Disclosure of Major Software Exploits by Students? · · Score: 1

Along the lines of what some of the others have already mentioned about finding a professor that you can trust.

I'd suggest communicating with a well known, respected, professor from outside of your country (which im assuming is the US) I can suggest one from England who has written multiple books, some of which im informed are used by many US Universities as course books, admittedly he isnt a software professor, he is on the hardware side of things, but he does have some pretty sizeable influence in computing in general, i wont reveal where he has this influence or who he is as I'd prefer not to name him at the current time, ie he might not like his name being brought into this, though i could act as a go between if needed.

The advantage of this is it becomes a little harder to track you down, and some laws are different over here (I not exactly sure if these would make a difference though)
