The New York Times is probably the most widely distributed newspaper in the world!

Actually, USA Today has the highest circulation of US papers. NYT has half the circulation of USA Today and WSJ. Three Japanese papers and one German paper have circulations above four million.

Then again, this really doesn't matter. Spread Firefox has done a wonderful job and should be commended.

Not specified in the article itself, a GameSpy article included a subtitle of "Need for Speed Underground Rivals and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Golf bundled with PSP." No, it's not confirmed by any means, but it is a strong rumour.

In my area (Lawrence, KS), CBS, NBC, and PBS all broadcast (over-the-air) HDTV programming. PBS (and perhaps the others) have more than one HDTV channel running simultaneously - in other words, they can broadcast more than one program in HDTV at the same time. In addition, the HDTV tier of my cable provider offers HDTV flavours of ABC, CBS, Discovery, ESPN, HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax. Also included are a generic HDTV programming channel and HDTV movie channel. At least in this huge metropolis of 90,000, the programming is here.

  7. Jobs and the Disney/Comcast Merger on Steve Jobs' Grand Vision · · Score: 5, Interesting

The article fails to mention that Jobs can also play an increasingly large role in the proposed Disney/Comcast merger. Comcast's CEO, Brian Roberts, is trying to pursuade Steve Jobs to join ranks with Comcast. Since Pixar has been directly responsible for a very large portion of Disney's recent success, and since Pixar will be severing ties with Disney, if Steve Jobs endorses the merger and decides to renew the contract with Disney (because of the Comcast deal), stockholders will be significantly more inclined to approve the merger.

  11. Why The Commotion? on Apple Users Threaten to Sue Over iBook, iPod · · Score: 4, Informative

Out of the computers I've owned in, let's say, the past twelve years, only one has never had any sort of problem - and it was a Compaq. Last time I checked, Compaq wasn't exactly well known for well-built computers. The computers that have had something wrong include an Epson, an Acer, a Gateway, two Apples, and probably another one or two that I can't remember.

Even though my two main Macs have had one problem each, Apple's technical support has been nothing short of stellar. I purchased a PowerMac in August of 2002. The machine had some display problems. Apple two-day shipped me a replacement video card and DIMM. After those didn't solve the problem, I had to take the machine into a shop. Once I got the machine back (it apparently had a bad processor daughter card), I found that the local shop had broken my video card. Apple overnighted me a new video card - a video card better than my original one.

I'm sure my story isn't indicative of everyone's experiences with Apple's technical support, but I'm also sure that Apple's high technical support marks from major computer magazines isn't illusory, either.

Bill Nye is, supposedly, putting together a new television entitled "The Eyes of Nye". Unlike the children's program, "The Eyes of Nye" will be aimed towards adults and will deal with controversial science topics. Also, Nye is serving as a professor at Cornell University, the university where he graduated from.
I'm glad to see him come back. I remember that he was a strong voice against the Kansas Board of Education's evolution nonsense. Although I was in college when the decision was passed, and my old high school wasn't even particularly governed by the KBOE since it was a private school, the ruckus that it created was quite loud. It was good to see a prominent science figure speaking out. Now that I'm an adult, I'm happy to see him speak to my current age group. Hopefully they can put out a good pilot, and hopefully someone will pick it up.

I'm confused as to what Walmart's impetus here is. Steve Jobs has very clearly stated that iTMS makes about squat for profit; it's just a pretty Trojan Horse to get people to buy iPods (and eventually Macs). Walmart doesn't have an MP3 player (that I'm aware) to push. Selling music to get people to buy MP3 players seems a bit more plausible than, say, selling music to get people to buy tires/clothing/cereal in Walmart stores.
