  5. Stealth heat signature on USAF Developing New "SR-72" Supersonic Spy? · · Score: 3, Interesting

In the excellent "Skunk Works" about Lockheed Martin's special projects division, Ben Rich discusses the problem of masking the heat signature from air friction against the airframe of a plane flying Mach 6, saying it would show up like a meteor to a thermal detector. At that speed you can't shoot it down, but the observed can detect it thermally. I recall that he said they put additives in the SR-71's fuel to reduce the heat signature of its exhaust.
It seems that the U2 and SR-71 overflights may have had a calming effect on US military actions, as they allowed the US to better understand the USSR's level of alert, and prevented overreaction to a false belief that the USSR may have been massing for an attack.

First thought after installing Safari- The migration from Firefox isn't quite transparent. My /. log/pass didn't transfer, The bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar were put in thier own folder, not Safari's Bookmarks toolbar folder (easy to fix with a drag and drop, but not transparent) and I have my FF bookmarks toolbar links customized to not have text, but only show the small logo icon for the site, thereby being able to fit 30+ icon on the Bookmarks toobar. Safari only displays a text name, so they don't all fit. I looked through options to change this, can this be changed?

Last October, My children and I attended a great NASA sponsored presentation about the Dawn mission given by John Ristvey of MCREL that had was very entertaining, and had wonderful participation activities for the kids. He had one activity where he had kids holding various fruit to illustrate differences in the asteroids. One was a grapefruit (large, smooth, has moisture) another, a raisin (small, irregular, dry). It's a great presentation suitable for your scout, science, or astronomy group. At the time, you could enter your name on the Dawn mission website to be included on a ROM?? that will be sent on the probe. It looks like you could contact him here to see if they can present in your area: http://www.mcrel.org/about/staffDir/request.asp?st affID=80

Our home server is a small MCE box hooked to the TV for PVR, media storage and display, and sharing files and media that are accessed by (all laptop) clients around the house. No machines host any Internet available services, so security is less of a concern. It backs up to an inexpensive NAS box. We use an outside mail host, so availability of the server and Internet connection isn't as critical.
