These regulations would ban non-Chinese firms from selling software to the Chinese government.
So whats to stop US companies from opening 'chinese' companies?
It's CHINA. This is just an Official Policy statement by the Chinese Government announcing they will pirate all software in the future for Government use. This was somehow lost in the translation?
Hey, I found more discussion on this at this site. Looks like someone tried to submit it to slashdot, but they didn't put it up.
Anyway, they have found multiple photos at google with the same object. Some think it's something on the sat lense (noway - those things are super protected) and other's think it is part of the image matching markers in the software.
Have fun with it - there are some funny remarks at that website ("it's a mentos ad!")
"Hence, christians like to be with other christians. We like to read books, listen to music, go to store and restaurants where we are likely to meet other christians who share the same philosophy of life. This is no different than comic book lovers congregating, etc."
I couldn't have discredited the Christian religion better myself.
Carl Sagan always had a way blending the cold of science with the warmth of humanity. It's always easier to "get it" with science if you allow the implications sink into your emotions. That's where the meaning comes from.
"Does anyone know of a simulator for velocities above c? I'd like to see someone do that."
Actually, there is an excellent simulation for just that scenario. What happens is that everything moving past you turns plaid. It's called Ludicrous Speed. Whatever you do, do NOT push this button.
"They claim they have destroyed the information and haven't given it out."
Don't you think the word "destroy" is over doing it a bit? How about just plain old "delete"?
Unless of course Beavis & Butthead here actually strapped some M-80s to there b0x, lit the match, and tossed it off the edge of Niagra Falls while shooting at it with sport rifles. Then "destroyed" would have been appropriate.
"What? I've been downloading TV torrents for over a year now, and I have yet to see one with any of the commercials left in or any warez group ads added."
HA!! GOTCHA!! This is the MPAA, and you my friend, are so busted! You can look forward to our letter in the mail in 2 days. We bought Slashdot 4 months ago. CmdrTaco is now part of our legal team. All your IP address are belong to us!
I pay about $50/month for my COX cable internet connection. I don't think that downloading the occasional "Daily Show" is going to hurt anyone financially. Think about it:
All this "stealing" talk is bullshit. The logical end to it is that if you "pay" for TV cable channels, but don't "watch" the shows, are you "stealing" from the advertisers because you chose never to watch the show? NO. So how is it stealing if you down load a show YOU NEVER WATCHED IN THE FIRST PLACE???
Virtual Insanity.
You were recently interviewed about our latest development concerning NED. Someone in your department was quoted as saying, "The display appears to promise lower costs for a full 40" HDTV screen bringing the price down to $400."
Now, we here in the Sales Department know that is technically correct. It was explained to us in the last meeting.
But I was pretty sure that we (Sales) told you (Engineering) NOT TO FUCKING TELL THE WORLD THAT SHIT!!! What do you think we are in business for, to GIVE AWAY OUR FUCKING COMMISSION DOLLARS? Ahem...pardon that outburst...
As I was saying, we here at Motorola pay you Engineers (quite a bit of money) to develop neat new stuff so that the company can sell it at a healthy profit. We were actually hoping to sell the 40" HDTV flat panels at about $1800 range...you know...so we COULD MAKE A FUCKING KILLING FOR ONCE...but NOOOOOOOOOO, you have to tell the world that we can sell it at $400 (30% GP) as opposed to the 84% GP we could havdfua/ @$^&q980-9ua;sdlfkj!~~~~!!!!!!!!!
...iPod for n3rds.
Just the miniMac, internal battery, and that's it.

I know this is totally off-topic but, WTF is this?: Google Sat Map of UFO over Florida
If this has already been discussed here at Slashdot, when? I want to know, cause it looks like a UFO. Or is it a joke by google?
Okay, let me try..."Creationism is a religious myth. Intelligent Design is based on that religious myth. Let the flames begin."
I stated a fact, but I just don't feel that will be enough to start a flame war. What do you think?
Carl Sagan always had a way blending the cold of science with the warmth of humanity. It's always easier to "get it" with science if you allow the implications sink into your emotions. That's where the meaning comes from.
Brian Greene defeats the evil dragon of ignorance at the end, but emphatically, does not get the lady.

What would the MPAA say about .torrent files going around with nothing but 30 minutes of back-to-back commercials??
"Dude, I've got the latest laundry commercials. What about you?"
"Man, I spent all weekend hunting down the McDonalds 'I'm Lovin' It' campaign-International Set, SEASON 1."
"Dude, is it good?"
"Man, I'm lovin' it!!!"
*MPAA springs wood*

Either that, or I'm too dumb for slashdot.
Yeah, yours looks like you put some thought into it. This other guy looks like he just got bored, and dumped it in the tank.
So was it real messy cleaning the components, or did you just throw it in the garbage when you were finished with it?
Dear Engineering Department,

Anyway, thanks a lot. We quit.
Sincerely,
The Sales Department
**Hello MODDERS.... +5 FUNNY for Parent!!!**
X-People, of course.
It's more PC (Politically Correct) than X-"men".
Get it? XP, PC... I'm keeping my day job.
...I believe the technical term for this is "Gray Rubber".
Is this a /. first?
A real life, honest to God "quote-snip-nazi"?
Awesome.
Even better would have been if they mounted the (linux) server in a BIG IRON BOX.
