I don't understand why people are unwilling to sit down and figure something out. For instance, try sitting down and writing a kernel module.
Companies don't care that you have extensive abilities, but rather can you work with their code, figure out how it works, so you can fix bugs and add new features.
I suggest you spend time with whatever language you enjoy and maybe find a job you're interested in and start using the language that company uses.
As a current college student, when I toured schools, there were some that advertised theory based studies, and others that advertised hands-on experience. It seems to me that the Hands-on schools are producing more thinkers than tradesmen, but this is not garunteed.
Outlook also works great. theres not much wrong w/ evo besides the fact that its buggy and not very smooth. the one thing they both could work on though is todo lists.
wanna bet. i know of hundreds of people who lost there jobs due to some stupid decisions made by hp. They used to be awsome but have been going down hill ever since the agilent/hp split
here here. its so true that kids dont want to start programming hell i didnt. try this simple order:
1. Play games
2. find out it can do more
3. learn that you can customise the gui
4. find out tht there is text behind the gui and how to use it.
my mom had this really bulky brick of a laptop when i was young that ran windows 3.1 and i always played with that. plus my dad had/has a computer he was constantly upgrading. i loved to try and help him upgrade harddrives or ask him what he was doing when he started chugging away at the command prompt. I got a computer around age 10 and i havnt been the same since. I now run linux and windows and im getting better everyday:p
My p[arents though are an interesting bunch because they lived on opposite sides of the us and dated via BBS after that met at at an expo.
I think that you're blowing this alittle out of proportion i know a large amount of system admins who use Testing. I personally am a semi-noob and i run testing just fine.. its possible that i dont run any packages that break easily, but ive never had any packages break when i run apt-get upgrade.
sadly its so true.
at my school most students are into one of the above and have a cell phone. every guy has played and probably owns some sort of video game system and a few girls play video games.
but as he said involve those (perfeably sex and rock) and most kids will come. drugs attracks a different crowd not usually a smart one.
just my.02
