Alright, bear with me. GTA: The Movie. You've got to admit, it's got a bit of story and background. I'd love to see Bruce Campbell playing Tommy Vercetti as a comedic gangster (So he's not Italian - I don't care). I could see him slip right into the role.
Then again, why not use the voice of Vice City, Ray Liotta. I can't quite see him doing the comedic aspect as well, but we'd all recognise his voice straight off and he has done the Mobster film before.
That article is all about nVidias latest little shortcut. Rather than do linear interpolation between mip-map levels, they've introduced little plateaus where they only sample one mip-map level. It saves on the amount of memory bandwidth they have to use when reading a texture.
The thing that I find strangest about this little 'optimization', is that the GeForce FXs have heaps and heaps of memory bandwidth. It's not the area they really have to work on.
The new cliche will be pointing out cliches. The slashdotters who involve themselves in writing cliche +5 funnies will attract another crowd who moan about cliched +5 funnies.
Then they're be another crowd who analyse people moaning about people who write cliched +5 funnies. This mob is starting to come through.
Then people will start a cliched response to that level in the chain, and on, and on it will go until everyone on the planet is involved in the huge chain of cliched jokes, witty responses, and critique. After that, the sheer scale will evolve its own cliched jokes and the process will become... a chain!!!
Then ensuing feedback loop (having already swallowed all of humanity), will eventually achieve a sentience of its own (a product of the infinite monkey syndrome) and the Slashdot servers will grow legs and crawl away.
So please everyone, keep posting your cliched jokes. And if you don't post the jokes, post replies attacking the jokes. And if you don't post attacks, post some insight on the aggresion. And if you don't do that, think of something even more original. Eventually, we will all become the creators of a new form of life after which, I for one will welcome our Slashdot serving overlord.
For those of you who don't know, Fountainhead is the company of John Carmack's wife. As mentioned a long way down in his.plan file. So there's even more geek news for you.
Although it doesn't quite count as machinima, I always found Summoner Geeks (warning: annoying flash ads) pretty funny.
Imagine how valuable that data will be. Your surfing habits, matched with your personal information, matched with the personal information and surfing habits of all your 1st-degree friends, and all your friends' friends...
Couple that with a user-installed back-door straight into your email program and all the data held within:
You really want this email right now, and it should pop-up over everything else and should not be filtered out under any circumstances!
Slightly offtopic, but one bizarre thing a free trade agreement with the US would mean for Australia, is more US television content. There are currently laws in place that mean television broadcasters must allocate a certain amount of hours to Australian content. It's much cheaper to buy television content than it is to make it, so the broadcasters are well and truly in favour of it. Many consumers feel that we get too much US content as it is without opening the flood gates.
There are many ways a free-trade agreement would benefit Australia as well. As a largely primary producer, the subsidies the US government give its wheat producers price Australia out of the market. No-one has managed to convince me either way that such an agreement would work out better or worse for Australia. I certainly can't see any benefit for the US. Obviously, things will change (some for better and some for worse) for both parties. But is it truly worthwhile for either?
Smart phone sales are predicted to overtake PDA sales this year.
If those phones have the capabilites that people are currently using PDAs for, then why not just ditch the PDA. Most people only use them for addresses, calendering and perhaps taking a few notes. Why not just keep it simple.
Are these phones that have PDA abilities, or are phones becoming PDAs that just happen to have a phone attached?
Here's the official announcement mirrored at Blue's News.
One line that intrigued me: A radically revised rendering engine that gives "Freedom Force" a look torn right out of the comic book pages.
Are they moving to cel-shaded rendering? At least it's more than just a novelty in this case. Although I think it would be kind of cool if they'd tried to do a kind of 50s TV look as well - just to distinguish it from the multitude of cel-shaded games already).
I agree with you. He didn't cause anyone any grief apart from a bunch of munchkins who needed a kick in the behind. I think it's disgraceful that he was put behind bars in the first place.
I think this is great news! When I saw this over at Blues News I was very excited. Freedom Force was a great game on so many levels. It was a hell of a lot of fun, the script was hilarious right from the opening sequence, and it was just such an original take on the strategy genre.
The "Dirty Commi Bastard" humour was very amusing (even to an Aussie), so I can see the Third Reich angle being an easy target for them. I hope they bring back the same characters.
I'm sure most of us have heard of this story by now. It was also covered on The Register the other day. If I were a customer, I'd certainly want to know about this kind of hole. Does anyone think he caused any grief? He gave notice to the right people, and they still didn't listen. This is like Microsoft ignoring security holes - and we've all heard those stories.
I think he did the right thing. The only people to lose out appear to be the incompetents who are now forced to fix their mistake.
The article is suggesting though that if one of these cases actually went to court, it would have to endure due process, and that's where the defense would come into play. I think that you, me and just about everyone else here thinks that the RIAA are pushing so hard to settle so they don't have to get an ass whoopin' from a judge.
On an unrelated note, you'll notice that they've settled with a little over 60 people for a few thousand each. $5 says that they aren't making money out of these cases yet. If that is the case, then just what is their intention.
That's comparable to someone wearing a Richard Nixon mask in a bank job, and ol' Dicky getting the blame though. Though I guess with enough lawyers and subpoenas flying around, they could scare you into anything eh?
I think this post a little further down adds a lot to this argument. Keep in mind that they never publicly stated that that would be the release date until (as you say) about a week before hand - The only reason people thought it was Sept 30 before that was leaks from other sources. They've been working on this project since the end of the last decade. You can't claim that a few weeks off in a schedule that is a few years long is really that bad.
And then there's the other question, do we care that much? There are other things to do with your life for a couple of weeks. I'm glad they're taking their time - the game will probably be more stable. For that extra 1% of enjoyment from not getting blue screens, I'm willing to wait a little.

It's times like these when I need pants.
What? Why are you all backing off?
Cheating? nVidia? You mean like this?

When quantum computers first come to fruition, the best part will be reminiscing about how terrible computers were "back in the day."
No, they'll still be terrible. They'll just be terrible really quickly.
Well I couldn't find the option, but here's a page for setting up defrag at start-up, and scheduling defragging manually:

Nokia now giving away bags of cash with each N-Gage - public still skeptical. Nintendo and Ericsson still laughing their asses off.
They've got 150 more to taste. Reports so far include 300 taste like chicken, and a few mysterious 'Tasty Wheats' flavoured oddities.
My thoughts exactly.

And just to add to that, Miyazaki's info page at IMDB.
