I'm thinking that it is a product of a CYA sue-happy society. No one wants to take responsibility and have it be there problem when it goes wrong, and probably, school officials didn't have the technical expertise to even tell if harm was/wasn't done.
Agreed, noone starts programming w/o ever seeing someone elses code. Most of my code now is from scratch (or from my own previous code), but at one time I looked at a lot of examples from books/internet to see how things were done.
While it makes me sad to hear your boil down one of my favorite shows, it makes me wonder if I would like it as much now than I did then. I always thought the best part of the show was the witty dialogue and how much the show made your care about the core characters. I was about the same age as buffy when they were released so I also related to the, perhaps, childish problems she was facing at the time.
That being said, for some reason, the first season sucked. I don't know how it got picked up for more, but the next couple were amazing.
I'ld never heard of the RIM phone until I saw that bargraph, it happens to be the name of all the blackberries. Everyone says 'Blackberry,' who calls it a RIM?
This one? http://home.cogeco.ca/~nroy15/games_index.html Good for a free pac man clone, but still not nearly as good as pac man championship edition (I played it on the xbox 360 arcade)
And then bring two cameras, one with the other filter on it. But remember to get there correct filters (left circular and right circular). Then you could even copy it in 3d.
they probably didn't have a manufacturer of custom hardware, so when the OTS hardware changed with time, OS/2 didn't support the newer hardware and they had to update to a OS that could.
That doesn't mean they play mindsweeper. My mom has windows XP, but she uses my old gameboy to play tetris. Also, its not like there isn't a tetris clone made for every popular OS.

The itunes store knows by your account that you own/licensed an app. If you get a new iphone, you would still have to set it up by associating it with your itunes account, and maybe unassociated your old iphone with that account (probably has to be done on a computer). But you can re-download any app from the itunes store that you have the license to from your iphone.
How I know: If I buy an app, delete it, i can redownload it for free (cause I already paid for it) and all the while I havn't plugged it into a computer.
To your final line, backups are still useful because contact info, and the data a program has (my massive todolist) are not stored on any server. I plug mine in once every so often just for this reason and for any firmware update.

I get that, but once "setup", my iphone doesn't ever need to be connected to a computer.
Clearly an unsubstantiated opinion. I thought those books were thought provoking and insightful (read them in HS). Comparatively, if Tolkien's boring trilogy are to be given a bonus for being the father of modern Fantasy, then surely you'd have to give Asimov the same leeway. IMHO: Asimov > Tolkien any day.
I can't think of anything that's morally wrong that doesn't cause harm. Did I read the wrong FA?

In recent history only ~30% of eligible voters have voted for any particular president. You think the current president wouldn't care if 70% of the population died? I don't like politicians, but they're not all the same and they're not all as callous as you think.
Yeah he would care, because that would go his record, but he is ALREADY elected. But I get your point. Some would and some wouldn't, because some power hungry people are sociopaths and only care about the perception of themselves because it helps them get ahead in life.
Agree but w/ kind of a different motivation. I want our Great Society to become color blind. And that will only happen when no-one [certainly no gov't agent] ever asks me what my "race" is. How is a 'clipped' signal random ever? A clipped signal is one that saturates the max maximum or minimum so when it should be varying out side of the range, it is pegged at exactly one value. E.G. input (0-5 accepted): 2,3,4,5,6,7,6,5,4 -- actual: 2,3,4,5,5,5,5,5,4
The rest of your post is really generic-
"You have to apply a transfer function" Which one? For what mathematical purpose?
"a lower limit threshold that is above the noise floor" Yeah, isn't this standard for ANY input device ?
"and limit small movements" How can you limit what the user is doing with the camera?
"and a high threshold to prevent any clipping." How can an imposed threshold prevent clipping, either you allow the full range of the input device, or you artificially clip it.
Except correct prioritization should allow the user to still do things while "background" processing is done. No one said it needed to be optimal ( though the word optimal is meaningless w/o a given criteria), they are just saying it could be better for the user.
Definitely a cute trick,
While I thank you for your explanation, I have very little trouble doing mental math, estimations, and basically anything from addition through calculus. The point is that there are those who can do math, but can't do it in their head, even though they are otherwise intelligent, an quick-witted.
The problem you don't see is that while shifting decimals by */10 is easy, as soon as numerals have carries from the *2 or *3 the mental math becomes harder.
Insulting someone days later because you can't be bothered to figure it our yourself?! Seek help my friend.
