When my router's wireless transmitter blew I called up technical support to get a replacement. I told the guy I would like a replacement but he said i first had to try some configuration troubleshooting on my computer. He spent about 2hrs going through stuff that I assured him I already did but he insisted that I do them again anyway. The way he was describing the things made me realize that I knew a lot more then he did. Finally I got my faulty router replaced.
That is weird. My CD burner from sony came with an installatino cd for windows. All I had to do for linux was plug it in and everythign worked perfectly-- hardware and software!
A lot of these posts are abot GNU or unix things--like gnome or NFS--. I wonder if the book uses the term linux generically to mean anything open source or if the book just includes kernel annoyances.
When gnome 1.3 grouped similar items in the task bar; (ie all the mozilla browser windows) I was happy. 2.2 doesn't have this feature. I don't like KDE as much as gnome so I'm stuck with this. Also, graphics configuration is a pain especially for ATI.
I disagree. I think it is bad news. how can someone patent such a common phrase like "buy it now". ANyone can think up buy it now and people have proabably used that phrase since before computers or even typewriters were invented.
That is interesting. If those apps are text it would really be counterintuitive. There are applications designed (teamspeak) that try do voice instead of text communications.
yeah i agree. How does SCO, a company only known by a minority of the population beat a trusted company that has been around since before computers were made. People who haven't even ever used a computer know and trust IBM. My grandfather worked for IBM. Just as a side note, did you know that their employee motto was "Think" (apple's motto is a reaction to that one)
1) I'm sure apple gives massive discounts to the government. It is possible that as a result of the discounts, apple was better in this case.
2) They are servers and using 3dhardware to draw the desktop probably wastes resources. Just a thought.
How do they air condition a sub? Is it similar to the way a refrigerator works or does it pump the air out causing bubbles?
I would hope that it be provided for free to the inhabitants. I geuss the government is more concerned with antiterrorism funds even though a lot more people are dieing from diseases and starvation in Africa and even in the US(cancer especially)!
In addition, the US Government has already shown us that they don't care if code isnt open source. They recently purchased a large license from microsoft. I bet the state governments wont think any differently.
Its pretty pitiful that a hacker could gain access to the kiosk at the voting place. You'd think someone could spot a guy hacking the machines. I wonder if the online voting will be web HTML/java based or if it voters will be required to download an application to vote. If the second is true, I hope they have a client for all the operating systems.
In addition, we are the ones who are providing a lot of the content. The people who run this site *need* our input or it would just be google news. even if the site didn't have ads, we still woulndt be freeloaders.
I disagree. The internet should be a method of SHARING information. I have posted information that I am sure other have found valuable without any expectation for any compensation. I have used the content of others who i am sure did not expect anything in return. There are some people who are cheap but you implied that you represented the whole internet when you said "We are exceedingly cheap"
I think aol users are more likely to pay for more things. They already pay extra for proprietary content. There are add on extra things for aol that subscribers have to pay for. The article already mentioned the time magazine example.
I dont know why i was moderated as flamebait. I didnt mean to start a flame at all. It was just an observation. I don't have any problem with apple's license. I am actually very happy as a long time apple user.
It is interesting that Apple makes no mention on thier home page about this change. I think this might be because they already have the general public believing that they are open source and telling us now that twhey erent open source until now will cause the gen. public to get annoyed or untrustworthy of apple.
This doesnt apply to the whole OS does it? I dont think so. Does it apply to the darwin core? I thought that already was fsf approved. Someone please clarify that. Hopefully this isnt a stupid question.

I just use vmware.

Its the picture of the foot (in gnome) in the bottom left corner just like it is in windows.

Obviously Linux would be a better choice. I just meant that linux isnt the governments favorite OS for some reason.
I think you mean seperation of church and CITY.

Well you have a point but that bill only requires the gov to *consider* Oss. Anyway, the bill is only a proposition.

If this vaccine is going to be tested in Africa why does it need approval by the FDA?

Considering the fact that only part of the OS is open, wouldnt it be impossible to be compliant with GNU specifications?
