As a longtime professional musician turned software tester (starving to death sucked), I feel qualified to say the following. Presented in this article is yet one more reason to pray for the demise of the industry that has created an environment in which the use of such a device is not only acceptable but desirable.
The industry's crimes:
1. Ludicrously overpriced CD's.
2. Cookie cutter 'artists' (marionettes).
3. The purveyance of heinous and extremist moral values to the detriment of society.
4. Music turned into a background for ones life, instead of a glorious experience to be valued.
5. Active attempts to destroy/hold back technology in order to preserve their crude monopoly.
6. (Should be #1) The cruel exploitation of those who earn their money for them.
Am I bitter about my experiences? Hell yes! Can't wait for them all to go out of business.
Doesn't happen, eh? Overreacting? Let's count up my experience...started with a stolen box of checks and a faked ID. Turned into...
1. Destroyed credit report, six years and still not fixed. 2. Can't get credit. 3. Can't get a job without going through hell (good thing I like my current one)and most employers don't want to deal with trying to figure out if you are telling the truth or not. 4. $2,500.00 in direct financial damage from the actual crime (banks don't cover anything when it's checks that are stolen) 5. I spend between five to ten hours a week, every week, for the last six years, dealing with this. Can't even guess what that has cost.
But don't worry, it doesn't happen, just read some of the posts!
So, by all means, don't shred your receipts, that's paranoid. Don't bother with checking credit reports every year, the banks cover it, right? By all means, use your Social Security number for your Slashdot ID, and never worry about buying stuff online or subscribing to that porn site in Taiwan. You're just overreacting.
Previous to reading SCO's reply to the IBM filing, I thought that the theories that MS was behind this whole affair was a bunch of hogwash, the usual ranting of the anti-MS zealots.
Now, I'm firmly convinced...this is an MS backed ploy all the way. SCO wouldn't have any motivation to break the GPL, they just want some money. Looks like they found a way to get some...by playing the stooge for MS, and trying to break the GPL.

More "Ask Slashdot" questions:
1. How do I defuse a live bomb?
2. How do I clean an industrial sized meat grinder?
3. How do I remove my own appendix?
And most dangerous of all:
What's under that dress?
