  1. Re:Some info on Free DVD Recording Tool For Linux? · · Score: 5, Informative
I've been using dvd+rw-tools (my distro is gentoo) exlusively for burning dvds since I got a plextor 708A last xmas.

I never had a single problem with it from day 1 :)

I'd like to mention that with the -overburn flag I can squeeze a bit more of data (above 4.7 billion bytes but below 4.7 million Kbytes(Kbyte=1024 bytes)) when needed.

In addition I update my dvd burners firmware with PXUpdate for UNIX http://www.fokus.gmd.de/research/cc/glone/employee s/joerg.schilling/private/firmware.html, something which is very important for people that don't dual boot.

As demonstrated in https://expressivefreedom.org/Projects/PVR/Firewir e-Methodology.html a 4gb+ single file (ie a backup tar/bz2ball) can be squeezed in dvd, which is something that propably(I can't say for sure since I haven't used windows for ages) can't be done in windows.

Chris. PS Use the above at your own risk

SQL is a high level language for querying/getting stuff, it is not a programming language.C and assembly are used for programming at different levels.Mixing the previous two is considered bad software engineering practice and should be used only when it's really needed.
The puprpose of SQL is not to worry about how to get but what to get.Injecting function calls inside your queries will make your and others life definitely harder especialy in the large projects you mentioned.
I am quite confident that the above will harm performance ass well.
Databe functions(!=injecting function calls inside queries) are definitely usefull. MS access is for SOHO/small companys use.

IMHO using code inside SQL statements defeats the whole purpose of SQL. Since maintenance is the longest part of software lifecycle, I don't see the way a dirty hack like this will help development of large projects. The clean way is using sql statements inside code. Chris.

  5. p2p legal alternative on RIAA Calls Settlements Proof that Education is Working · · Score: 0

Instead of RIAA suing people, it wouldn't be nice to use its resources to make (us aware of?) a service where someone can download mp3s legitimately (on a subscription or pay per song basis)? The mp3 format has many other merits than that the content, encoded with it, is most of the times free. Ripping cds someone owns isn't convenient and sometimes not possible due to copy protection these days.In addition the price of a song downloaded should be much cheaper than the price of a song in a cd for obvious reasons. I'm only aware of the iTunes service but that's too platform dependant.(I din't make a proper google research about such services but if there was a mainstream service like that IMHO I should already know it)

  6. Wrong Targets on Take-Two Interactive and Sony Sued Over GTA · · Score: 0

Last time I checked GTA had an ELPSA rating 18,which means that the game is for adults only. Hence the parents should sue the shop where their children bought GTA. IMHO somebody should sue the parents for crimninal negligence. I try to educate many parents telling them about not allowing their kiddos playing games which are a not suited for their age but sadly most of them don't care. They seem to be happy having something to keep their kids off their toes :(
