Heh, you make it sound like they've got one UUCP connection servicing the whole nation...wait...isn't there actually some central American country like that?
It seems like in those days, Lucas was much more creative than he is now...It's as if working within those budget constraints and having to face opposition from the major studios at the time forced him to create a compelling (if not slightly hokey) story that completely drew audiences in.
In my opinion, he's simply trying too hard to make a blockbuster. Star Wars was meant to be a cheesy little space opera, not some grandiose epic. While RotS may be a decent film in its own right, I doubt it will have the appeal of the original trilogy.
Exactly. The first time I read this article, I immediately started thinking about how utterly Orwellian this whole campaign is. Then again, 1984 was a horrifying book...perhaps evoking those images will help MS scare people into compliance.
I haven't actually bothered to read the paper yet (*GASP*), but I'm curious as to whether or not the demographic changes reflect that people who are more economically sound, that is, those more likely to be comfortable with using and purchasing electronics, are more likely to vote.
I suspect that not only do these machines have the potential to be horribly abused, but they do their fair share to scare away potential voters who would otherwise have a voice, if not for being intimidated by the technology.
Mandrake's a good starter distro, plus it works well on HP Laptops, especially ones that use the Radeon IGP chips.
I'd say use that distro, otherwise you're going to be doing a lot more work than you probably want to be doing at first...if you want to go a little more advanced than that...try installing Slackware, but only if you've got someone to go to for assistance... on IRC or otherwise.
I've had good experiences with both. No matter what, you're going to want to pick up the skills necessary to run any build of linux. The distro stops mattering so much AFTER you get to the point where you have a command over *nix style operating systems.
Anyway, have fun with it!
We'll shoot for 14 April 1995, but that's probably way off.
Copyright law seems so murky to me -- the Government doesn't hold the copyrights, naturally, but who issues copyrights?

Toyota: The next Microsoft.
Generally, I think the release date is the date the music made it to iTunes, unless it states "Originally released" or something akin to that.
